You Know What Makes a Mess?

My fabulous dog hid a used pull-up in the laundry basket and it ended up going through the wash. It fell apart and it got it's gelatinous little guts all over the entire load of wash. That stuff sticks to EVERYTHING! Has anyone had this happen and what did you do to get it off the clothes? I have it all going through the wash again now and set it to do an extra rinse... Thanks mamas!!

So What Happened?

Well, thanks ladies! The hose in the backyard isn't an option since we have about 3 feet of snow on the ground and it appears that we will until July... So, after the second go-round in the washer, there were still some stubborn little gel-balls in there, so I sent it through a third time and went to bed. I left a note for my husband to check it when he got home. He must have thought it was good to go, because the clothes were in the dryer this morning, dry and with no sign of the mess. Who knows what those sticky little guys did to the drain pipes or the innards of my washer though...

I would avoid the dryer because if it gets off the clothes it might mess up the dryer in an expensive-to-fix sort of way. If I were an unethical person I might suggest taking it to a laundromat but since I am a very straight arrow I would never tell you to do that.

You might put the dog through the wash and dry cycle just to make a point.

I'm impressed you made it to the pull-up stage having not washed a diaper yet. It happens. It's annoying. If there is alot of "gelatinous little guts" I might shake them off but usually (sadly it has happened more than once) a second wash cycle will take care of it and the lint comes off in the dryer. Good luck!

With the laundry basket next to the diaper pail and the natural distractions surrounding running a home daycare, I've washed a few Pull-Ups/Diapers myself. I guess I just have a great washer/dryer (nothing expensive or new by any means) because I just rewashed the clothes and dried them as normal. Picked a few large pieces of "fabric" out after drying, but it took care of all the desiccant. Good luck!

I'm going to think the dryer will be better at getting it all off. At least the dog didn't eat it and have to have surgery!!!

Call the manufacturer of the diaper, I am sure this has happened before!

I would say maybe just run it through the wash a couple extra times? Sharon P. suggested to run it through the dryer. That may work, but a part of me wonders if those little gel ball/chunkies will melt or make everything stink? Let us know for future reference :)

ROFL... Oh I've had this happen!!! That gel stuff. Omg. Little bits of fabric-y papery schtuff stuck to everything. Aaaargh.

It was summer time so we took the hose to our clothes... and cleaned out the gel (scoop, scoop) as best we could, and then just re-ran everything.

Yes, that has happened to me. haha! My toddler took off his pj's and pull-up and threw it all in the hamper. I didn't notice when I was putting the clothes in the wash... anyway, I freaked out when I saw this stuff ALL OVER my clothes!!! I decided to re-run the washer again. It worked. When I took the clothes out to put them in the dryer, all those little beads were gone.

Oh my goodness.. this happened to me. It was a huge mess. I had to take each piece of clothing outside and blast it with the garden hose to get all those little gooey things off of them, then clean the washer, and rewash everything.. what an ordeal. I feel your pain. lol
