Sounds hormonal. My periods were very off after my last child. The doctor put me on birth control for a couple of months and all has been back to normal since.
Hi. My question is about my menstral cycle. It only lasts 3 days (My baby is 12 months and I started having a period at 7 months) and the pain is so severe that I swear I am in labor. I take Midol religiously when I feel it coming on. I have never had bad periods before. The flow stops almost suddenly, without tapering, and then two weeks later I'll get the darker discharge for a couple days. Is this common and will get better or should I go to my doctor? Thanks in advance!
Your advice was wonderful and it really enlightened me! I am going to my ob/gyn this Thursday. Thank you for your advice and letting me know it's not common! Hugs!

A. - that definitely does not sound normal. I have had 10 kids and I am 42. After my first few kids in my 20s and 30s my period returned exactly the same as before. After my 9th baby it was different and I chalked it up to age. Turns out I had polyps and fibroids growing on my uterus - not big, but enough that it caused discomfort and heavy periods. I would call your doctor and talk at least to the nurse and then request an ultrasound - a vaginal scan should detect any problems.
When was your last pap smear? Make sure you are taking care of the annual stuff, because that can eliminate many problems right up front.
Im going through some cycle issues myself..it started after i had my last baby which shes now 3yrs old and i thought within time itll go back to normal but never did, so i went to the drs last wk and he put me on bc and hopefully thatll help my cycles become more regular again. Midol seems to never help me i usually take Pamprin .

I think if you are very concerned you could at least call your doctor and ask what they think. Sometimes you can just talk to a nurse or leave a message for the doctor to call you back and that way you don't have to make the trip in. I've only just gotten my period back after 5 months and it was heavier and longer than I'm used to, but not a lot of pain. I've heard that your periods definitely change after pregnancy and a lot of times get worse. I don't usually take Midol, but ibuprofen has always worked best for me with menstrual cramps. Good luck, I hope it gets better for you!
It could be normal, but I'd rather hear that from the dr. I have painful periods, too (although not as bad as yours), and the pill has helped me tremendously. Also, if you are still breastfeeding, please check with your dr that the amount of Midol or ibuprofen you are taking is safe for your baby. I hope you get some relief.
Go see Michelle Brown of Wildflower massage. She is an incredible healer who practices Mayan massage, which is a massage that balances hormones and addresses digestive issues. This woman is so unbelievable...she has cured me from painful periods and *severe* daily digestive distress. I spent a ton of money w/ my GP who couldn't help at all (told me to just up the fiber in my diet). She's $100/hour and worth EVERY penny. Her website is http://michellebrown.massagetherapy.com/
I agree go see your doctor. To me that does not sound normal at all, extreme pain like that is definitely a sign something is going on. I would check with your OB just in case!
Hi! My period also changed after my pregnancy but not to your extreme. I believe we know our bodies better than anyone else and you sound concerned so I would definitely go to the doctor. Serveral years ago I had a very odd monthly period and since it was so out of the ordinary I went to the doctor and there ended up being an issue that needed to be taken care of. Nothing critical or life threatening but something that could have prevented me from getting pregnant later. Also, you sound like you are in a lot of pain. Good Luck!
