My son's school is having a parade to celebrate 100 days of school. So we are supposed to come up with something for him to wear with 100 of something attached to it. We went out with a few ideas in mind and couldn't find any of them. So what does my child choose? He found Star Wars playing cards - one deck of heroes and a deck of villians. Had to have them. He was so excited. So I got them. But now does anyone have any ideas on how I can attach them for display on the parade? I thought of a necklace of some sort and he poo pooed that pretty quick. I am afraid they won't stay on with hot glue, because of the slick surface. I am not a great seamstress, but I do have a sewing machine. Any of you brilliant mamas have clue as to how I can attach 100 playing cards to clothing for display during a parade? They will be changing after the parade, so it only has to last 30 - 45 minutes.
THanks so much mamas! I think I am going to go with the cape idea. Since I know he wants everyone to see the pictures. I think I am going with the tape idea and stick them onto contact paper. He knew the cards were basically disposable, but if they fit in those individual sleeves for baseball cards, we might be able to disassemble it later. Thanks so much!
Don't wreck the cards. Get baseball card protective pages (not the individual sleeves). They hold nine to the page. You can tape the pages into a cape or sandwich board or vest .
I hated, hated, hated 100 days and all that stuff. I really did. I felt like it was ridiculous.
Now that I vented that, how about stapling the cards to each other and make them rows that can be made into a short cape. Then use a cord or a ribbon to put them together somehow at the top to tie around his neck. I don't think that you would need to sew anything but something at the top. And you wouldn't need material for the cards to stick onto. Just let the rows of cards make up the cape.
I hope it won't take long and it would be better than all that pasting or gluing.

Our 100 days was bring 100 of something and they exchanged them with the other kids. My daughter took various tiny stickers of My little pony, star wars, Dora, princess and cars....
Many kids brought in pasta...that was a mess!
Hole punch them and thread a medium diameter twine & wrap them around his waist, like a card belt?
i'm picturing a sash like chewbacca kept this bullets in.
would ziploc bags help you hotglue them slide it in zip it up and then attach the bags??

How about a shash,, like scouts wear with their badges sewn on? Lay the cards out on the sash and with big stitches in yarn, hook them down. I also like the belt idea. slung down on one hip like a gun holster,,only no gun. We love 100 day celebrations. Our daughters birthday is early February so sometimes it landed on her birthday and she would bring 100 candles. One time, 100 pennys. The whole school would go out on the playground and show the lower grades 100 sudents. The times it was on her brithday, the whole school would stand and sing Happy Birhtday to her and a couple other kids who had the same birthdate. She has great memories of the 100 day celebration.
You know those simple vests that you see kids wear for flag football, a big opening for the head, no sleeves (sometimes ties on the sides) and what looks like a bib area on the front and back? Maybe make one of those, even skip seaming it (because the rough edges will get covered), and stitch the cards on,in layers, like armor. You could do heroes on one side and villains on the other. Try wide stitches and upholstery thread. I'm thinking your son might like the idea of armor.
Is it going to bother him that they will potentially get damaged in the process? Sewing them on (along the top, probably) in layers could be really cute... the heroes on the front of a shirt, and the villains on the back... but I hope he understands that no matter how you attach them, they will get damaged in the process......
I can't really think of any other ways to attach them. I agree, hot glue probably won't work, and tape wouldn't stick to the clothing, most likely. (Except Duct tape would..... something bright and colorful, maybe?)
or just staple them to cape?
Get an over shirt (one that is too big). Punch holes in the card at one end, attach with safety pins through the hole and cloth.
