My sweet little girl is starting her fun 2's i guess! She is starting to throw tantrums and not listening very well at times. Any suggestions on books or audio dealing with diciplining toddlers? It helps me have more patience when knowing what to expect and what i can't expect from her. I need some tips!! thx

"What To Expect The Toddler Years."

She is normal.
They do that.
It is developmental based.

Is she talking yet?
One good thing to teach them already, is the names for feelings. ie: happy, sad, frustrated, mad, grumpy, tired etc. So that they CAN tell you how they feel or what they need. LATER as they get older, this will make them much more articulate... about conveying frustrations. AND so that they know that they are 'allowed' to say how they feel or what they want as well.
I did that with both my kids at that age. And, they are now very articulate about expressing themselves. It builds their 'emotional IQ" which is very important for children.
It is not just about punishment... but about giving them SKILLS to self-navigate, too, and coping-skills. Which 'discipline' or 'punishments' does NOT teach, to a child.

all the best,
Susan

My 3 year old daughter's teacher who has been teaching for over 15 years suggested 1-2-3 Magic (or maybe it's Magic 1-2-3) to all the parents. Luckily I haven't needed to buy it yet, but she said it completely changed her whole classroom environment when she put it into practice. Good luck and remember this too shall pass! :-)

I really havent liked happiest Toddler on The block to be honest, I think it may depend on the kid honestly.

I second Harvey Karp and The Happiest Toddler on the Block.

Below is a link to a video clip (keep clicking play to get past the commercials) that was really helpful. Note the parent using a playful tone.

Toddler 411 is a good book as well as "Easy to love, difficult to discipline". The second one really opens your eyes as to how children think! I loved it!
But yes, it is soooo normal for this age group to have meltdows. Wait until she's 3!!

I second Easy to Love Difficult to Discipline. Our parents as teachers educator recommended it. I have also heard good things about Love and Logic and but have yet to get it from the library.
