Both... usually in alternating bands.
Few years of one, few years of the other.
You could cut/paste MandaF's list (just sub the USMC for Navy) in mine as well.
Are you BOOK smart or STREET smart?
Both... usually in alternating bands.
Few years of one, few years of the other.

Both, equally.
Traveled and lived around the world.
Been in the Navy.
Been to college.
Been homeless.
So yea, both :)
Both. I grew up in poverty in some pretty rough neighborhoods.
I have a master's degree plus hours towards a doctorate. I love learning. (I find it quite hysterical that I get comments like "your mother must have cut the crust off your bread for you!" and "you must have grown up in such a sheltered environment.")
However, growing up with alcoholic parents and being around so many dysfunctional and mentally ill people, it is sometimes hard for me to read people and their intentions.
Both. I grew up with street smarts and then got on the ball and became more book smart.
On the job, I used my book smarts to get the job, but use my street smarts to get the job done.
Neither. I'm an idiot.
Both.
Book smart, also street smart.
Raised both ways by my late Dad.
As well as my own instincts.... and things I saw/lived in.
Both, I think - I did well in school and learn easily, but also have common sense, know how things work and can pretty easily figure out anything that I need to learn how to do.
Book smart. I read all the time and am in grad school. I still have to concentrate and work on how I am in social situations. I have to remember not to sound like an academic journal in conversations...
They are not mutually exclusive, so I'll say both.
Started out more book smart while hubby is more street smart - but being with him, as well as just living life in general, has made some of his "street smarts" rub off more on me.
A little of both....
i am one of the smartest people you could meet and so dumb when it comes to street smarts. seriously, my husband laughs outloud at me all the time about things that a person with common sense would never miss, and i do all the time. so, yes i am bookish smart, and life-smart but not street smart at all.
Well I am a good reader...but don't know alot of trivia...but I have worked with people from all walks of life and I know alot about the streets...but most of my spare time is spent reading in my recliner in my "crib" in my own "hood". LOL Everynow and then I will turn on the stereo and "bust some tunes or rhymes"!
Totally street smart. That's not to say I am an idiot or anything! :) I didn't go very far in school, just a HS graduate, but feel like I can get on and make a life just about anywhere. I can teach myself things that I need to do in order to survive. I just don't know anything about the DOW or NASDAQ.
L.
I'd say book smart wins out because I don't socialize enough to be street smart... but I read all the time.
Hmm, I think I have a fair amount of both.
However, I am going to go with BOOK smart, because I am way too trusting of people.
I always thought book smart was those that were smart but only because they studied all the time. Street smart was common sense and then there were nerds like me.
I am def not book smart so I guess street smart though I have the common sense of a flea.
