there was an article in the NY times yesterday on camera reviews including a canon... I believe they loved the powershot SD880IS.

Hello Mamas! I was just reading a camera question and thought I would ask one of my own. I am looking for a compact digital camera that takes really nice pictures. I have a Canon (an older model) now and I love it, but I think it is just too big. I am looking for something I can keep with me at all times for those unexpected, special photo ops! You know that being a mom, there are plenty of those! I realy would like to stay with a Canon becuase I have had such good luck with mine. Does anyone know or have a Canon digital camera on the smaller side that they would recommend? Thanks and Hapy Holidays!
Thanks for all the great responses! Now that we have our power back, I was able to check my emails and now have tons of researching to do on all the camera suggestiions. Thanks!! Happy Holidays!!

We have the Canon Powershot SD870 IS Elph. We really like it because a) it takes great photos, and b) it is small enough to carry most anywhere. I highly recommend that model, or whichever new model has come out to replace it. We've had it for over a year.
S.,
I recently bought a Canon Powershot A590 and love it. With 8 mega pixels for $150 how could you go wrong?
Hi S.,
I have a Cannon SD1000 and I love it. It was small and the price was great. Good Luck

Hi - I love Canon cameras too - I'm on my 2nd and both have been great. My first was an Elf model. While it worked great and is a smaller size, I had to replace it once the rechargeable battery started to lose it's charge. I tried getting a new battery, but didn't help. I had it for a few years before this happened. The Powershot I have now is larger - in part because it requires 4 AA batteries. I like this better because I can get rechargeable AA batteries if I want... but the key factor is that I am definitely able to replace the batteries without the camera's function being an issue. I would imagine that any smaller camera is going to have this issue. Good luck finding what you want - I hope this helps!
Hi S.. any of the power shots are great! I just recently got one because my old kodak broke and after getting a canon I will never go back to kodak. Have fun and test them out at the store while you're there. Some ciruit cities are going to be closing so if there is one in your area check there.
I got a camera last year th Panasonic lumix
DMC-FX07. I am sure that they have updated it but I read a lot of reviews and I like that this one is very small, has a large viewing screen and has a quick time for when I turn on the camera for when it is ready to shoot. It is very easy to use too, because I have no time to read a manual and it is easy to figure out. It also takes video footage which is handy for those 1sts I want to catch. There are a lot of good review websites out there for research so you may want to check those out. I also picked the lumix because it is supposed to have better lens quality but I am no photographer so I may not be discerning enough to notice a difference. It works great though. Happy shopping!
We had to replace our old Cannon Powershot which was six years old. It was dropped at the kid's birthday and broke open...we glued it back together and my six year old still uses it to take great pictures!!!!
We replaced it with the Cannon SD750 Digital Elf. I love it!!! The screen is really big and the functions are pretty similar to our old camera. We got the one with the rechargeable battery and it was $169 on amazon.
Hope this helps.
It's not a Canon, but I LOVE my Casio Exilim. It's small and takes great pictures. I have the Z300 model, but I have friends with the less expensive ones and they recommend those too. My camera takes decent short videos, too.
Hello
I just bought the Cannon 1100SD, it's small enough to fit into my pocket, had the top reviews of any camera 199 and under--I didn't want to spend TOO much and so far I am very happy with it! I actually ended up getting it for 158 on Amazon. Hope that helps! Good Luck
We just bough the Sony cybershot and love it. Great pics, lots of cool features like smile detection, takes good video, has a lot of memory in it (don't even need a card, Got great editor and user reviews. Here's the link.

I love my Nikon Cool Pix
My brother always buys the little Canon SD-series cameras. They are very small and take great pictures!
Hi S.,
I am a full time photographer and use Canon. Take a look at the range of Canons offered within your price range and then do a google search for that model(s) reviews and lens quality. Finally, take a look at Olympus. They have wonderful point and shoot cameras that are also waterproof to 10ft. and shock proof to 5 ft. which means you can drop it and take it to a pool or beach without the normal worries.
Good luck. Finally, if you want a dealer (100% trustworthy) to chat with, let me know.

My husband and I just picked up a Canon 870. We did quite a bit of research after our Sony ran into significant electrical problems. We were after a camera that had a big view screen, the ability to zoom while filming video and quick shutter action when taking photos of our active 2.5 year old. The sales person at the store indicated that the 870 replaced the 850 (which my parents have and love) and that the 850 was one of the best cameras that Canon made. He wished he had gotten an 850 before they were discontinued. Hope this helps!

Hi S. - I'm a Mom and a photographer on the side, and I have been a huge fan of the Canon powershot for years! I have the SD700is right now, which I've seen on sale many places. You can shoot automatically, manually, and also shoot movies. It's not large at all. I call it my spy camera, small enough to tuck in your back pocket. Good luck!
