I am looking for a new digital camera. I am a mom who mainly takes pictures of her children and all their events--nothing fancy or professional. My last one quit working-it was 8 years old. I am looking for something simple, fits in an average size purse, large zoom, quick snap, and takes good pictures in low light (This is a big one!! I was really unhappy with my last one. What feature do I look for in order to make sure it takes good pics in low light?). Thank you all for your help! I love this website!

What can I do next?

Hi D.,

It's not tiny but I've found it to be great. I use the GE (made bu Fuji) X5. I bought it at Wolfe/Ritz Camera for $150 for work. It uses rechargeable batteries so I don't have to be without my camera when it "dies." It has a great zoom feature as well as a wide angle. It's sturdy and lightweight. Has many other features but most of which I don't use. The pictures are great..My husband bought one for work and I loved it so much I got one for me. Don't let the GE name throw you...

I have been happy with Kodak EasyShares. I had the z950 for about a year, then my son dropped it and it stopped working. I just received the M580 for Christmas. It not quite as good as the z950, but we were looking for a cheaper point and shoot as we are looking to get a DSLR as well.

As for your question about taking photos in low light... look at the ISO. The higher the number, the better it will be.

Are you talking point and shoot? If so, I have had a sony cybershot for many years, my last 3 cameras have been sony's and I have loved them all! I'm not sure about the low-light issues, but I take a lot of indoor pictures and have always been happy.
