Do I Am Exagerating?

Today we went to the mall and my husband took my credit card and put it back in the wrong place in my wallet. So later I went with my toddler to Ikea and got a kids meal. As I am about to pay I couldn't find mg credit card. I told the lady I couldn't find my wallet so just skip me. She told me she couldn't so I try calling my husband to ask where he put it but at that point 4 more people where behind me waiting so I told her again to cancel mine and she extremely mean told me very loud (as to make me feel embarrassed ) "well, if you don't have money you shouldn't be here"
And she went to get the manager, by the time they were back I already had find my wallet. When I tryed to talk with the manager and tell him what happen he just told me : she did the right thing by trying to cancel. I explain that it was MY idea to cancel because SHE just was staying there and telling me she couldn't do anything so he said " what she told me is totally diferent on what you say"
I say " but I am the costumed and I shouldn't have be told that" he just eye roll!
Do I am exaggerating?

What can I do next?

I would absolutely email or call the district manager. That is no way to treat a customer. And the comment about if you didnt have money you didnt belong there, that is just over the top rude. And the manager gave you an eye roll? Totally unacceptable.

No, you're not exaggerating. She was very rude and so was the manager. You should contact the regional manager and make a complaint. Also, if they put those surveys on the receipts like most places, fill that out too and give them a negative review. Best wishes

Everybody makes mistakes. They were very rude to you and there is no excuse for you to have been treated like this.

I would call or send a letter to their district offices and let them know what happened to you.

I would write to the store manager and the corporate office and also send an email. Hopefully you got their names. They should not have embarrassed you and should have been polite. Ikea owes you an apology (and maybe a nice gift certificate) for your trouble.

I agree with the other posts. She was rude.

I also agree with sending a letter of explanation to the highest level of management you can find for the company. By addressing it to a high level manager, they will track your complaint as it makes its way down to the local management.

Is it just me or are people getting ruder and ruder these days? Everyone is so focused on their own lives they don't notice the way their rudeness impacts the lives of people around them.

OK...some people do suck, that is true! We all have to deal with rude people once in while and it can be very hard for all of us. I am sorry you had to deal with that...try not to let it ruin your day.

I would go on-line and find the corporate office for Ikea! Then send them an email or call them and explain what happened. I know they will not be happy! Be sure to mention names if you can!

I had a similar problem at a McDonald's once and after talking to the corporate office I received a very sincere apology and several coupons in the mail (which I used at a different McDonald's). A friend that knows the manager at that McDonald's told me the manage and employee were reprimanded for their rudeness to customers. The employee was eventually fired for her continued rudeness.

No..you are not exaggerating. I would contact headquarters and make a complaint. That was rude of the cashier and of the manager...very rude. Sorry you had a bad experience at IKEA...I love that store!

How awful! I can't believe how mean they were to you - that is totally unacceptable. I agree with the other moms, call Ikea and ask to speak with the store manager and tell him/her your story. If I were the manager, I'd want to know that my customers were being made to feel embarrassed, not only by store employees, but by department managers too. If you don't get a good enough apology from the store manager, I'd complain to the district manager as well.

I would go somewhere else!! And tell everyone about your experience too. We used to eat at a chinese restaurant every Sunday after church. It was a buffet, and we always left a tip for the waitress. Suddenly she started skipping over us when it was time to fill the water glasses. She would go out of her way to ignore us. Finally after a few weeks I asked to speak to the manager. She told me maybe it was my fault because maybe I did not leave a good tip. I'm like excuse me I fill my own plate but I do leave a tip. We stopped going there. Don't you love great customer service.

Wow, you handled it way better then I would have. I would have apologized to the people behind me, and had a few choice words with that manager, his eyes probably would have been crying rather then rolling.
I don't think you're over reacting at all.
Oh and I hate when my guy doesn't put my card back in the right spot. =)

My husband had a similiar experience at Ikea. The employee was very rude and when the manager got involved the employee lied about what happened and the manager reacted in a similiar way that the manager you taked to, he basically told my husband that he was the one that was lying about the situation, while the employee stood behind him with a smug smile on his face!

I'm sorry, but the last thing anyone needs is drama from the check out girl at Ikea food court. LOL Don't let them get to you. It's their issue. Sure, you can complain to whoever handles those things. But, in the end, is it really that big of a deal? Maybe if you sort of laugh it off as this crazy girl who was incompetent, maybe it will help you cope better with it.

No you are not exaggerating, I am very picky when going places, and when someone is rude to me I am not afraid to repay the attitude back... No matter where you go a order can ALWAYS be canceled no matter what. I personally would have asked for their main office number to call and complain about the service (they have to give it to you) and if they won't it can always be found. I admit I tend to have a bad attitude toward some people but I go by my own saying "If you don't like your job, or don't want to do your job then don't!"

When she told you she couldn't cancel the transaction, you should've just walked off right then. There's nothing she could have done about it. More than likely, she didn't know how to cancel the transaction and that's why she had to get the mgr.
