Hey everyone! My four year old daughter has long beautiful hair that is getting cut for the summer. We would love to donate the hair. The only place that I know of is locks of love but I am not sure we can get 10 inches out of her hair. Do anyone know of any other oraganization that requires only 8 inches. Please let me know if you do. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for your comments. After checking out the website I think we are going to go with Pantene. I am so thrilled that my daughter is willing to get her gorgeous hair chopped to give it to someone who has lost their's to the battle of cancer. It's funny how much my four year old daughter inspires me to be a better person. And I know she will look just adorable with a short little cut. Thanks again!

another idea (and this is for anyone- no matter how many inches removed) is to find a search and rescue organization. They use hair to help train dogs for search, rescue, cadavir, etc. That is what I always do when going in for more then just a trim/snip.
When i cut my waist length hair to my chin- then I donated to locks of love.
Hope this helps :)

Do not donate to Locks for Love - they charge the recipients for the hair (it is on a sliding scale of their income). As of July 2008, they were not categorized as a charity b/c they sold unused donated hair for profit - over $300,000. I donated my hair through Pantene. They will take 8 inches and do not charge the recipients. Here is their website: http://www.pantene.com/en-US/beautiful_lengths.jspx. What a great thing your daughter is willing to do!

I just donated mine to a program through Pantene. Go to http://www.pantene.com/en-US/beautiful_lengths.jspx and check the requirements BEFORE you get it cut. It only requires 8 inches.

When I researched it 10 inches was pretty much the norm, it's what they need to work with it. Can you wait just a little longer (or cut it just a little shorter?) Hair grows faster this time of year. If you make several little ponytails you can probably eke out a little more length.

(I remember the stylist looking at me like I was from outer space when I told her that it was more important to get 10 inch ponytails off my head than what I looked like afterwards, I didn't want it to be for naught)

you may want to call locks of love and clarify their procedure to donating /purchasing wigs . They have gotten really big and I think the overhead cost got to be more than they could raise. I don't know what they charge it could be 5.00 or 50.00. We have donated to them for years. Peace

Locks of Love will take 8. They did from my daughter, anyway. I had my beautician cut it and she sent it to them. Someone got a beautiful wig!
