I have lost weight and amin my 50's which I thought the main reason for it but I have all this excess baggy skin that looks like elephant skin to me. Though I am smaller than ever in my life and than most ofthe young people I know, I can't wear anything cute or even a bathing suit! What can i do? Surgery can't be the only solution! There is no way I will likely ever be able to get that. But I really would like to be able to "show off" my success and not be self concious about it if/when I get a new "someone special" and I have plenty of interested people but am afraid that once the clothes I look hot in come off they will run fast and fuirous the other way! So I do insead!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wel I learned that unless I et rich enough to afford surgery, I wont be able to do anything about it. I do thank every one of you who esponded, though. And that, as I thought, and now know, those comercials about people losing gobs of weight then wear a bikini, doesnt happen just from losing weight by whatever method is being advertized. I do wear form fitting clothes, that attract me a lot of attention, along with my smile and when they get know my personality. And I am very choosey. And not by their looks either. So the very few, are special and think I am and cant seem to get enough of me, any of me! When it was their time to have me at all I will add, just so everyone knows it wasnt all of them at once, OH my, even saying, all of them" sounds bad, or far from what there is or was! Anyway, yes I should be proud, I am proud and feel new and wonderful! I did the till death do us part thing already and dont know if there will be another, but, I am sure he wont mind a bit! Or maybe I will be lucky and he will have money to get the surgery!? So far I have been really lucky - without either!

ive often wonderd this but have never lost enough weight.

i guess all i can say is if someone really loves you, and is willing to committ to you then a little extra skin wouldn't be a deal breaker, but i wouldn't be hopping into bed with out that committment because I would be totally crushed to be used and rejected.

I do think surgery is the only option for a LOT of excess skin, right?

The great thing about being mid 50's is you should feel "comfortable in your own skin"! (Pun intended.)
Women are too hard on themselves-be PROUD of yourself!
Be your best YOU and that will attract the right person to you.
Congrats on your weight loss!

Short of surgery, there is nothing you can do. But know that you can 'show off your success' by wearing something very form fitting vs. nothing at all.

And if you are seeing someone your age, chances are they are going to have just as many sag issues as you. *giggle*

I lost a lot of weight myself. I've seen websites where personal trainers claim they can get your excess skin off. I would say that's worth a shot before you try surgery.
I wear 3/4 inch sleeved shirts, and underclothes with a lot of spandex. I probably wouldn't wear a two pc if I could.
I'm always upfront about the weight loss and it impresses people-by the time a relationship progresses they know what to expect.

I have often wondered about this when it comes to celebrities who have lost excessive weight. Like...what happens to all that excess skin? Of course, they swear no surgery involved with the weight loss or post body toning. But how is that possible. I would consult a weight loss specialist or doctor to see what options you have.

Sorry hon, as someone that had elephant skin as a result of pregnancy....surgery is really the only way to get it.
You can try some of the skin tightening lasers out there (thermage), but the only permanent solution is surgery.

I can tell you that I had a tummy tuck a little over a year ago, and it was the best decision I ever made, and 100% worth every single penny spent.

To a DEGREE, compression wraps can help (ESP while in the process of losing weight, and thereafter... Just so the skin doesn't stretch further / is y fighting gravity as its trying to tighten up)....

... But only to a degree. I used to have 3" of belly "smile" (Ugh. Not.). Now I have 1. Its still AWFUL. And, nope! Nothing short of surgery shall fix it. Nor my arms. Nor thighs. Skin is inherently stretchy. But once the bonds have been broken, they're broken. I have 30lbs of excess skin (just skin). Its awful.

But until I can nip tuck, Im stuck with it.

Think like a balloon. Stretchy, yes? But if overs fetched, it never goes back to the way it was.

Often if you lose a lot of weight, you end up with that excess skin. Unfortunately, the way to combat it is plastic surgery.
