Hi, I was wondering if any ladies out there have ever taken Prometrium to induce a monthly cycle and if so what were the side effects. And how long did it take for you to have a cycle after taking it? thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Hi I've taken it many times. AFter getting off the pill I couldn't have periods on my own and was trying to get pregant. So he would use the prometrium to bring induce them. I think it happens within 10 days of starting to take the pill. Side affects for me weren't anything major. I was just pretty moody! :)

I used prometrium through both of my IVF procedures (two times two babies!!!) and it only caused a bit of cramping. I also had to use it for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and didn't experience anything unusual. It was only a few days to a week that the cycle was induced. Good Luck!

I actually just gone done taking it. I took it for 12 days before I started my cycle. The only side effects that I had were being a little more tired and a little sick to my stomach. Luckily it was nothing like when I took it while I was pregnant for my last 2, that was the worst 12 weeks of my life.

I've been on Prometrium since I found out I was pregnant. It wasn't to bring on a period though, it was to prevent a m/c because my progesterone was low. As far as I can tell, I haven't had any side effects (unless I've just been unknowingly blaming them on the pregnancy, but I don't think so...)

I was just reading what some other people posted and someone said side affects are low--that's not the case for everyone! There are TONS of side affects and that person must have been lucky enough to NOT experience them! I had a miscarriage in December and w/in 3 weeks was PG again, so they gave me prometrium to prevent miscarriage again. I took it for 10 PAINFUL weeks. My side affects were severe: nausea (to the point I didn't eat), constipation (so bad, I CRIED), headaches (migraine strength), dizziness/blurred vision, irritablity (my husband's favorite!), and extreme fatigue. Yes, those can be symptoms of first trimester, however, this was my 5th pregnancy and I had NEVER had any of those symptoms, much less to the degree they were. (Plus, my symptoms ALL went away w/in a couple of days of stopping the treatments) I was SOO MISERABLE. The only bonus was that I now have a wonderful 6 week old daughter! ;) My symptoms were so bad that I was unable to function and care for my family/children. They started within a few days of taking the pills. Read the warning labels/packet carefully. They are hormones and too many hormones can cause problems. Good luck :)

I was on prometrium with both of my babies before and after I concieved. I used it in a cycle of drugs for fertility and stayed on it for my first trimester with both children in order to prevent miscarriage. Side effects of it are low... just tiredness and a little nausea comes along with it. Nothing too horrible.

Prometrium is used to help prevent miscarriage and to jump start a period. I have taken it for both. I usually start my period within 2-3 days from stopping it. I have a friend who doesn't start for a week after stopping it. I didn't have any side effects from taking it at all. Basically it tricks your body into thinking that you ovulated by building up your uteren linining which typically builds naturally after you ovulate and then when you stop taking it you shed that lining.

Hope this helps.
