Do any of you ladies have a husband who works on cars that might be able to answer this? The heater and air conditioner in my truck work, but just barely. A couple years ago, the air con wasnt getting as cool as it was before. Then the heater was getting as hot. Now,I can run the truck for hours and still have air that is barely warm. Is it a thermostat issue?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

It's a 2001 Ford Expedition 4WD. Both the cold air and the hot air do not get to temp. I had the Freon charged about 4 years ago, but still it never blew cold air as good as when I first got it new. Running the vehicle in any capacity does not make the air temp change.

Have you charged the Freon in your AC unit? They do need tune ups too:) RE: heat, ??
I hope Mechanic Mama is still on the site. She is really knowledgeable.
Per my husband and I having to re-build my engine last year due to engine overheating issues, the thermostat is for engine temp and while engine overheating (thermostat issues) can impact the heating/cooling in the cab, it does not control it. :)

How old is the vehicle? Could the heater core be clogged? I once had an older car that was hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Being that it is not effective hot or cold maybe that is a possibility?

Does your a/c blow cold when the vehicle is moving, but warmer when the vehicle stops? If so, the condenser fan for you a/c may be out.
What vehicle are we talking about?

One of my friends had this happen years ago, in AZ, turned out she just needed to replace the filter.

Hope it's something as simple as that.

You could possibly need a new compressor. I had to get one for my car. Hubby had to get one for his truck. You should be able to take it to any shop that does A/C work and get it checked out. For mine, there was a crack in the housing that was allowing the lubricant to leak out, so we had to get it replaced.

It was around $600 for my Ford 500. Wish I had gone with the one for $900 which was OEM parts. My compressor now makes loud, weird noises that the old one hadn't.
