I have been married for 13 years.
My husband proposed to me on July 13th 1996 while the sun was coming up over the Atlantic Ocean in a United Airlines flight and we were on our way back to Germany.
He woke me up from my sleep and asked me how the trip went (we stopped in Boston and met his family and then flew to Vegas to meet mine).
He asked me what I thought of him - I said "WHAT?" What do you think of me? I said - I think you are wonderful - he said "wonderful enough to marry?" pulled out my engagement ring and asked me to marry him.
We married Oct 11, 1997. It's not always been GREAT - but nothing good ever is. We've had our great times, good times, not so good times and BAD times - but we've weathered.
It's NOT about wedding. It's about the marriage. It is what you make of it. Kinda like a garden - you need to tend to it every day - not just when you feel like it - and the flowers will grow. You don't tend to it - weeds grow and things don't work.
