Hi! Mario tricoci has a school on Harlem between Higgins & Foster. They do great work, its a very nice setting & the prices are reduced. I am taking my 8year old next weekend!
My niece will be turning 8 at the end of the month and I would like to take her for a manicure or pedicure.
Her M. is sick and can't do all the "girlie" things with her and her dad is too busy with my nephew and sports.
I was thinking that maybe a afternoon of "girlie" activities would be fun for her. But is she too young? She is a girlie girl and I thought she would have fun getting out and doing something fun for her.
They live on the NW side of Chicago, Jefferson Park area, so I am looking for some place that is close by.
Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

In Jefferson park there is a nail place in independence square, next to the train/bus station. I can't remember the name but it's in that plaza with the 7 eleven, mattress world, subway, chinese food place, social security office.... another place I know is Uptown in Edgebrook on the corner of Central and Devon. That place looks a bit nicer and spa like. Hope that helps!
I don't know if they do kids manicures, but I love XOX. It's in Jefferson Park (Milwaukee and Sunnyside). Kasia does the pedicures and she is a doll!
Here's their link...

What a terrific aunt - hope you two have fun!
French Manicure day spa on Central and Devon is nice. They don't do credit cards though. A pedi is $33. They can sit up to three people together. I really like the place and the ladies are nice.
I think that 8 is fine for either. In fact, the place where I get my pedicures done said that they have done girls as young as 5.
Kudo's to you for helping out. This sounds like a difficult situation and a Girlie afternoon might be just what the doctor ordered.
My thoughts go out to you and your family. I hope that her M. is feeling better soon and can get out and do these things with her.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I think it would be cute for the Manicure/pedicure, I would take her to Harlem/irving right near the Putting Edge indoor minuture golf, theres a Nail place then you could go play golf, or go to a Movie at the Norridge theaters!! Have fun!! L. S
One of my best memories of growing up was when my aunt would take me to get a manicure, out to lunch and shopping for my birthday each year. It was a special time together! I say go for it! Make it a yearly tradition if you are able to.
I'm a teacher on the north shore and I have several students who get manicures at age 8 for birthdays-- not a normal thing but for a celebration like a birthday. So it's not uncommon. They do spa birthdays in which they all make soap, put on makeup, do hair, and paint nails etc. In general from what I've heard from moms, they wouldn't want their kids getting manicures regularly like adults becuase they want to keep them "young" and keep the children "children" but for a special treat they do it for their kids.
However, just regular painting of nails by mommy, babysitter, auntie-- NOT at a manicurist is common ALL the time. There's something about a manicurist that makes it seem too "adult" for everyday to them.
The kids love it no matter what!
