This would not be a problem for me. Both my Goldens get horribly car sick, a quick ride around the block in the car and the truth would be told.
Still, I would probably call the emergency vet line just in case.
:(
Ugh! These dogs I swear. I love them ............. but, a barbie was left ON the kitchen table. I came home from my daughters dance class... and lots and lots of yellow poofy hair allllll over the living room, and bits (TINY bits) of plastic. I cannot find the rest of the barbie!! One dog, I know he eats stuff (that's why everything gets put up) .... But then, I saw my other dog just lick up a tiny bit of plastic......... as I was sweeping.
Do you think they will be ok? It was a small barbie (the size of the palm of my hand with a big head), but , none the less. The barbie is GONE. I'm kinda freaking out. I'm guessing one of them will throw up late night / early morning.
PS they are big dogs. The golden mix is the one who is the one who eats everything. And I have a shepherd mix. They are both about 70lbs. Charlie (golden) has eaten.......omg, socks, towels, an ENTIRE remote control once, his ENTIRE plastic water dish (I now have metal)....countless toys, etc ......... He always seems to be fine but it still worries me.
1 day after - Well, no vomiting last night and both dogs are still happy, eating and peeing/pooping!
2nd day after - around 5am Charlie threw up a barbie head. and random plastic pieces.
I think I posted this about a week ago now and all is well. I swear that dog has a steel stomach.......I'm always so careful to not leave anything out - but sometimes he still gets stuff.

In our house, if I see Legos on the floor I yell, DOG FOOD!!!
Same goes for Polly Pockets, mmmm they are delicious to the canine crew.
I had one dog eat a whole bag of Reeses pieces. Another eat a pan of brownies with the glass shards, she had gotten the pan off the stove, hot, it crashed onto the floor, she ate them all before I got back into the house from the busstop, I was gone for maybe 10 minutes.
One would bring home diapers half eaten ffrom the neighors gabage cans.
One just ate the cocoa mix my hubby left on the bedroom floor.
THis is why I am a firm believer in cage training and my bad for leaving one out today to find the cocoa.
The only thing I have gone to the emergency vet for were the holly leaves one ate. She was coughing up blood.
But they are soooo cute when they cuddle up next to you.
Meh, I wouldn't be too worried. I have a beagle that just turned 12. He has eaten many many things including an entire tube of Coritzone 10, a DVD, an entire pan of fudge brownies, a bottle of pepto bismol tablets, several packets of taco bell fire sauce (foil packet and all) and countless sticks of gum, stuffed animals and dirty diapers.
I swear he is a walking garbage disposal that never fails to make feel like I'm going to hurl. lol But he is healthy and happy.
If you know which dog ate the doll then maybe call the vet. Even a small toy can easily get stuck in the digestion tract. I would still check around the house for the rest of the doll, maybe the dog hid it somewhere.
Some of these stories are either a) hilarious or b) downright scary! And after reading them, perhaps I need to revamp my response to the post about responsibility for an eaten cell phone.
Our german shepherd doesn't eat stuff. When she was a puppy (seriously, she was like 18 months) she would "de-nose" my daughter's stuffed animals. ONLY the ones with a plastic nose button. The rest of the animals were completely intact. She was very gentle. In fact, I was able to re-insert the nose buttons usually... but the "plush" on the nose area would be a little smudged/damp, lol.
She is gentle with everything else, too. She doesn't eat stuff. Not even her own dog toys. I have a huge bin that will never wear out b/c she is so careful with them. She picks through looking for the item she wants as if she were picking up delicate flowers or tending to newborn pups. And she pulls her frisbee out of the bushes outside in the same manner...slowly, gingerly, delicately.
She's such a lady. :)
She will shred used tissue if it is left lying around every once in a great while (my son has allergies so she has REGULAR opportunity for this, but doesn't often take advantage of it). I have never had to "secure" the bathroom trash. And she has access to our entire house (except ON the furniture).
I hope your big guy is okay. Let us know if you find gifts in the morning. ;)
Talk to your vet about it.
Sometimes barfing something up could do more damage than leaving it go through so see what your vet says.
I knew a Newfoundland that ate a frizbee (they were afraid the sharp plastic pieces might tear her insides up) but they put her on a special diet for a week or so and she was fine.
That same dog and her Doberman companion got into some insulation (the pink fluffy stuff) and ate a roll of it.
And they were fine.
Most of the time these things pass through without problems.
I bet you will find the barbie in the yard tomorrow morning. Hope you get a restful night. Charlie sounds like a monster dog!!
@Jennifer S, that story cracked me up ;)
I'm glad I have a cat.
Hope your dog will be fine, sounds like he will be.
Well, I think it's better than a corn cob. I knew a dog that ate a corn cob and it tore up its intestines. He made it through the surgery, only to rip out his stitches when he stood up, and that was it. :(
Awful stuff, those corn cobs. I guess you should watch their bowel movements in the next day or two and see how much comes out. I hope they are big dogs and not little ones!
Dawn
I have a golden and a dachsund mix. Our dachsund mix has eaten:
1. LARGE Chocolate Easter bunny
2. Chocolate covered espresso beans
3. Beer (one of my a-hole brothers shared a beer with her)
4. a 5 lb cheese log (she hopped onto the coffee table at a family gathering and ate the whole thing. She is a 25 lb dog - that is the equivalent of a normal human eating a 30 lb cheese log in one sitting.)
5. MANY MANY stuffed animals
6. MANY dog toys
7. Tons of little plastic toys
8. countless balloons
9. Diapers galore.
10. Tampons and pads
11. Her own vomit
It is amazing I still love that little beast. And that she has lived to 10 years old now. Yikes. She's fine.
Your baby will be ok.
if you go to the vet.. they can probably x ray the dog(s) and see where the doll is.. maybe make the dog throw up so the do9ll doesnt get lower in the GI tract.
I guess I'd be worried about the hair clogging their intestines. Twine, stringy things, rope, fabric, can wreak havoc on a dog's intestinal track (like cause a blockage or twisting) and possibly death. If Barbie is hard plastic, it might tear.
You could of course wait to see if it eventually comes out the other side, but there is no way to know the damage if any the chewed and swallowed stuff may cause.
I'd call the vet and see what they recommend. It's really anyone's guess what the outcome will be.
Ugh.
Keep an eye on them throughout the night to be sure they don't have problems if it gets stuck in their intestinal tract (sp?).
If so, rush them to the nearest vet hosp.
Just keep an eye on them.
sounds like they get into a lot of things.
Some dogs are mishevious chewers. I would keep anything & everything up high where they can't reach them. Can they reach the counters? Hope not. I would do a "sweep" of little toys left on the floor every so often when you walk through your house.
Let us know how they are. Keeping my fingers crosseed for you!
since theyre big i wouldnt be too concerned about it.. just keep an eye on them make sure they dont start acting weird or anything.. being that your one dog has a history of eating weird stuff and being ok afterwards i would try your hardest not to worry .. my dogs the same way 115lb yellow lab - hes gone through 3 tv remotes couch cushions, dish towels, underwear/socks, tons of paperplates and papertowels and the scariest things hes eatin - papertowels that had bleach on them (out of the garbage) papertowels that had weed killer on them (my dad spilled it all over the counter in the garage n then cleaned it and doggie went into the garbage) and a few weeks ago he ate tissues out of the bathrroom garbage that had a huge chunk of deoderant in them .. he was fine .. i really think that the bigger the dog is the less u have to worry about things like that as long as it wasnt a huge amount .. the times he got the bleach/weedkiller/deoderant we made him drink lots of water and gave him a few pieces of white bread.. just so hed have something in his stomach other then whatever it was he ate
I'm sure they will be okay... One time when we moved several years ago, we forgot about an ant trap on the floor behind something & our dog somehow found & ingested the entire thing. We were seriously freaked, but she ended up throwing it up. So, I bet your dogs will be having Barbie coming out of one or both ends... eeew!!
