K.,
I am going to throw out another perspective here. When my children started school, we lived in District 66. My children were in 5th, 3rd, and 1st grade when we moved to a house in OPS. We kept them in District 66 as that was where their friends were, familiar with the school, etc. What I wish I had done was moved them to a neighborhood school right away. What became apparent to me later on was that there were never any kids in our neighborhood to play with that they knew. When all the other kids around were outside, my children were out playing by themselves as I didn't know that parents of these other kids, didn't know the kids, etc.
I feel it is important to have your children in a school close to home so that they can get the entire social aspect outside of the classroom. I have heard good things about Ackerman and personally, I really like MPS. We opted into MPS after a horific experience with OPS. We couldn't be happier. Check out the school yourself. Go talk to the Kindergarten teachers, talk to the school principal. It is fine to take the opinions of other parents and learn from their experiences but I would also go and check it out for myself.
Each and every school district in every town has it's own set of issues. Goods and bads. Your school experience, positive or negative, usually depends on what effort YOU put into it. There are good and bad teachers/administrators in EVERY school district.
Good luck in your search!
