My husband and I are trying to conceive again. We have a two year old son already and my own personal preference is that I would like to have another child so my son will have someone to grow up with in the same age range. I was the third and last child and am 9 years younger than my oldest sister and 8 years younger than my brother. So needless to say I grew up pretty much alone it was a very lonely childhood i never want my kids to go through that hence why I'm trying to conceive again. I used a ovulation calculator the first time I got pregnant through babycenter.com and now I'm using that same method and I cant seem to get pregnant again. Which is driving me nuts because the first time I used the ovulation calculator... Jackpot I got pregnant. So what gives? Anyone got any tips on how to do this better. As far as I know we are still capable... I think. Please help any suggestions or answers on why its taking so long

Try using the actual ovulation predictor tests. They worked every time I used them. I tried getting pregnant for about three years before I finally got pregnant with the tests. They are about twenty dollars for seven tests.

Wait a second. You just had a post on "trouble with your sons father" and that you had a fiance??? Now fiance is husband? What's going on? If all the drama you said you are having with your ex over your 2 year old is currently happening and you are engaged not married don't you want to fix your current pressing issues with the endangerment of your first child? And since you said you used babycenter.com to plan your 1st pregnancy when you said you knew from the beginning that the dad was a loser makes no sense why would you plan to have a child witha cheater and drug user? Maybe you should talk to someone about what sounds like your lonely childhood and not try to make your adulthood less lonely by having more kids. And you might be having a problem getting pregnant becasue the 1st child is from a different dad as stated in your first post. I am totally confused. Or is this "husband" the ex that now you have taken back? If that is the case the reason you might be having difficulty is because of his weed/drug use? Moms if you are reading this go to "having trouble with my sons father" posted yesterday with the same poster. One thing at a time. Get your life and your story straight.

Dear Mama (With Plenty Of Drama),

My suggestion is take time to resolve the other problems you are experiencing with your first baby, (which IF, you haven't exaggerated are CONSIDERABLE). Once that DRAMA has been quelled, and you are at peace in a committed relationship, you will not have trouble conceiving.

You have posted two questions that are very conflicted.

Blessings....

First question is, how long have you been trying? A bunch of my friends are pregnant right now with their second or third child and conception rates vary. Some got pregnant quickly while others took about six months. I have a friend who is still trying for her third and it's been over six months.

For me, I used ovulation sticks (like the pregnancy sticks). I got my baseline ovulation dates from a website, then used the sticks to narrow it down even further (we were trying for a boy). That way, when I got a positive, I knew I'd be ovulating in 24-48 hours. I guess I lucked out and got pregnant the month after I stopped my BC pills (and yes, it's a boy! LOL!!).

So that's what has worked for me the second time around. I'm curious the hear what others have tried. :-) Good luck and don't stress! Yes, easier said than done, but stressing about getting pregnant does seem to keep some people from allowing it to happen.

I went to an acupunturist specializing in fertility (after trying for two years for my second) and he told me my body had never fully healed from the first birth. I set up an acupuncture schedule, Loved going, and was pregnant between my first and second visits. I kept going and, bonus, lost 35 pounds during the first 6 months of pregnancy. During the last tri-mester I gained 17 pounds, and lost it all on my second sons birthday. I felt great through the whole pregnancy and the second birth was easier too.

If it has been more than 6 months, go in and talk to your OBGYN. They can check your hormone levels. I have heard of people having problems after having kids naturally the first time around. It's not unusual.

I would second the person who suggested the ovulation sticks. You can purchase them at pretty much and pharmacy and they are where you wouldfine the pregnancy tests. We used them with both our sons and we got pregnant the first time we tried with our first and the second month we tried with our second. I also agree that stressing can make it much more difficult to get pregnant. Try to relax, use the ovulation sticks and take care of yourself.

Good luck!

First of all, although it is easier said than done, I would say try not to worry so much. I conceived my first child in 3 months and my second took us over a year. Needless to say, the spacing of my children was not my ideal...however at 4 years (almost to the day) it still works and my 5 year old is a GREAT big brother. I would absolutely follow the advice below of requesting a blood test. Unfortunately, my doctor was very unresponsive when I expressed my concerns after trying for 8 months. At 14 months, my husband and I had given up and were starting to discuss options such as adoption. I opened a 2nd company and what do you know...BAM...I was pregnant. As it turned out, I was anemic which affected my ability to get pregnant. Had I done a blood test earlier, I could have easily resolved the issue and gotten pregnant much sooner. A blood test is a quick and inexpensive option.

I second the recommendation for the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" (check it out at the library if you don't want to pay for it). Ovulation calculators and/or predictor tests rely on averages, and even the best can only tell you AFTER you ovulated--too late! You need to learn to monitor your body signs to know when you are about to ovulate, or if you're ovulating at all (and if not, when to seek more help). The book teaches you three signs to monitor in your body (without any expensive tools): your vaginal fluid which changes throughout your cycle and lets you know when you're about to ovulate, your basal body temp (taken each morning) which lets you know after you've ovulated that it did indeed happen (and also clues you in that you're pregnant long before a preg test), and (optional) your cervical position which also tells you when you're about to ovulate. Women can ovulate any time during their cycle, and my own monitoring has proven this true: when my daughter was conceived I ovulated a week earlier than usual! Glad I knew what to look for! We're about to use this method again to get preg with our next child. Good luck!

Stop Soy in all forms(soybean oil, soy milk, soy isolate, soy protien, soy casienate, soy lactate, soy extract), Stop chlorine in your tap water, Stop bromine exposure from hot tubs and store bought baked goods. All these products decrease fertility because they act as an estrogen when exposed to the body.

Iodine is an excellent thing to be taking while trying to get pregnant. It supports your thyroid- which makes hormones. We take idoral which is found online (you can actually get it at amazon now.)

Magnesium malate and vit E also support hormone/thyroid.

Stop all man made oils that go rancid as soon as they are made, like: canola, vegetable, safflower, corn, etc. These act against thyroid (and also help the body store heavy metals) and instead use raw virgin coconut oil in it's place, with some real butter and olive oil. Do not use margarine at all. Coconut oil helps the body create progesterone which keeps extrogen hormones from getting to high in the body(pro-estrogen).
