Is Waterproof Mascara REALLY Waterproof?

One of my good friends passed away. I've known him since 6th grade. It's not his death so much that bums me out (we all die, sorry), but the circumstance.... ANYWAY, since it's being investigated as a suspicious death, possible homicide, it's going to be a while they do they autopsy before they release the body for burial, and I am going to his service no matter what....

MY QUESTION IS, and I think I will probably go sans makeup (and a boatload of tissues stuffed up my sleeve); but is waterproof mascara REALLY waterproof?? Usually 'sans makeup' still means mascara, but I know I'm going to cry my heart out once I'm there... is it even worth using??

BTW, if you pray, pray for Casey. He thinks I'll silly for being sad, this I know, but the dude deserved to go out better than the way he did. If you're a music lover, he was too, so make the next song you put on to him :)

What can I do next?

Blot, do not wipe ... no eye liner on the bottom and try not to have liner on the top. I suggest you go with a good quality, not just covergirl brand if you want to be well protected so to speak.

i've used a few brands that have not rubbed off, but they do tend to clump together. i've given up trying. when at risk of tears, i go truly sans.

waterproof mascara does work, just remember to "dab" instead of "wipe" with those tissues. if you use waterproof mascara and don't smear it with the tissue it will be okay.

i am very sorry to hear of your loss and the tragic circumstances...saying a prayer.

Yes some are.

The problem is when you need them to be waterproof they fail.

Sorry about your friend. :(

Unfortunately, I was put to this test this weekend at the memorial/celebration of life for my best friend's son. Cystic Fibrosis took him way too early.

The other ladies are right...dab, don't wipe. It worked for me. Sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about your friend.

I've found that waterproof mascara, when wet, tends to make your lashes all clump together so you end up looking like Tammy Faye Baker (rest her soul)

It's true...the tragedy of it makes it so much more sad.

I rarely wear mascara anymore because my eyes have become so sensitive to everything. It's not to much the wearing of makeup, but the taking it off that thrashes my eyes.

The best stuff I ever used was called Marathon Mascara by Cover Girl. They discontinued it. Such a bummer, I swore by that stuff.

I don't know if you can afford it, but I like to treat myself to eyelash tinting every now and then. It's not that expensive and you don't have to worry about mascara. It lasts quite a while.

I can't really recommend a brand of waterproof mascara, but surely there is a good one out there. Like the other ladies said, dab and don't rub.

Best wishes to you and the family of your friend.

So sorry for the loss of your friend.

Dab your eyes don't rub them. Even if your mascara is not water proof it will just wear off onto the tissue. Bring your mascara with you and re-apply in the bathroom.

Ah...that stinks. Sorry for your loss. :(
As to the mascara, if you wipe it you'll still have raccoon eyes.
And "sans makeup" CAN really mean "sans makeup" if you want it to.
And no O. will care if your mascara is smeared.

WATER proof? Yes. You can cry a river, go swimming, etc. and it stays put.

SMUDGE proof? H to the NO. Dab tears, or wipe water from your eyes swimming, squnch your eyes shut, or rub your eyes? Raccoon time.

So sorry for your loss! :(

I would honestly skip the mascara. Your eyes are going to be so irritated from crying that it will only irritate them more. Dabbing only goes so far and you really may not think about it.

Yep -I've used lots of different kinds with no problems, but Riley is correct -if you start rubbing your eyes or wiping your eyes and include the lashes -it will smudge.

I'm sorry for your loss, R.. I'll keep him and his family (and you) in my prayers.

As for the mascara, the others are right as far as my experience goes. If you don't touch your eyes, it works fine, but I always dab my eyes when I cry, and even if it doesn't smudge, it gets in my eyes and burns. I would go sans mascara. It will be one thing you won't have to worry about.

I use Covergirl waterproof mascara. Never had any black marks or smudges of any kind - well, if I rub my eye withing the first minute or two of applying it, it can smear, but other than that I've never had a problem.

Sorry for your loss.
