Maybe I Have Too Much Time on My Hands, I Dunno. Mail Lady- Strikes Again.

So, my mail lady is a hag. Shes ignorant and does a really crappy job. But, I have no interest in calling and reporting her to the post office. I know, thats silly, but Im just not going to. Anyhoo, she pretty much hates me and I have already written her a semi-unpleasant note about randomly throwing mail and packages in my garage.
Now, my mail box has cigarette butts scattered all around it. No big deal right? I have took a deep breath and was like "Ill just pick them up" and then think about picking up her germy cigarette butts and it pisses me off.
Now I havent actually seen her do it, but none of my neighbors smoke and how is someone else going to get them all around my mailbox?
Let it go? Or ANOTHER letter asking her to pick up her butts and stop doing it!?!

What can I do next?

Too bad you can't get it on YouTube like the guy whose Federal Express carrier did when he threw the computer over the gate, on tape. A couple million of people watched that PR nightmare!

She would be called "the butt lady". Bahaha!

I know, my jokes are always awful!

WOW, I don't even know WHAT to say! I was under the impression that postal jobs were just not as secure as they once were?! Maybe she's sleeping with the postmaster general?!

You need to set up a camera to record everything she is doing. I am not sure why you haven't reported her yet. I would be making a call to the post master general and letting them know. I wouldn't bother leaving her notes anymore, she realizes that she can get away with it because you are not calling her boss.

Molly:

Please PM me. I will get some information from you and we can get this resolved.

My ex (first love) works at the USPS and they do NOT like carriers giving others a bad name...

You could install an ashtray / gravel filled planter next to your mailbox. :)

Record what she's doing. Then take it to the postmaster.

If you send her little notes she could say you're harassing her. It could end up turning out bad for YOU.

If you don't report her properly, you have no business complaining about her.

I would not bother with any more notes to her. I would get on the USPS website and submit a formal complaint! My mail person is constantly giving me other peoples' mail and/or not giving me my own and I'm sick of it. I don't know if it's just laziness or what. I have some not-so-friendly neighbors so I suspect my mail goes in their mailboxes and that's why I'm constantly missing bills, etc.; but like you, I can't prove anything.

If I were you, I would take pictures of everything; document the dates, etc. that stuff is left in your mailbox. Then I would definitely file a complaint!!! She'll never stop unless you do something. You should not be treated like that. Do you know if she's doing this to anyone else?

Good luck!!!

I wonder if we were neighbors - she sounds exactly like the mail lady at our old house. I won't detail all the bizarre activities, but I will tell you what I did about it. I documented each incident (and all the incorrect deliveries) for two months and filed a complaint. No avail. Sooooo, I taped a post-it note on the inside of our mailbox with this message: "SMILE! You're on camera!" ...worked like a charm!

PS- just before we moved she got out of her mail truck (rare event!) and walked up our long driveway to tell us she would not be delivering our mail today, because our moving van was in her way. Um, our moving van was completely in our driveway (ie in no one's way), our mailbox was with 4 others located 3 houses away from ours, and if she took the effort to come to our door, why didn't she bring the mail with her? (apparently, our van "blocked her field of view") My husband's response? "With service like this, he understands why USPS is going bankrupt!" lmao

Id be calling and reporting her with every misstep she took! Who knows she might end up "misplacing" a bill or something that might be of importance if you just write her another note.

Or do as the others said and get it on video and post it to youtube. You pretty much have her job in your hands!

You have to ask yourself...do you want mail or not. If you don't care if you get your mail...report her...see what happens...bet your mail gets messed with....otherwise ingnore it, pick up the butts and focus on something else. Bigger things in life to worry about then the mail lady.

Have you actually seen her smoking on her route?
I, personally, have NEVER seen a mail carrier smoking. In my area, both at home and the businesses I have worked at, most of the mail carriers walk a large part of their route.
I don't give a fig if they are smokers, I'm just saying that I've never seen a mail carrier walking and smoking. I would find it odd if I ever did.

I wouldn't accuse her or file a complaint without absolute proof. I mean, if she is the one doing it, have something to back up your complaint so there can be no denying it on her part.
You need to find a way to be home when she's not there or whatever. Be across the street at a neighbor's house with your video camera....something. You haven't personally witnessed it, that's the thing.
You could have somebody from a few blocks away who walks and smokes and throws butts in your yard, you never know.
You need some proof is all I'm saying.

We had the bitchiest mail carrier where I work now. OMG. We kept getting mail that wasn't even the right street let alone number and she would get PISSED if we mentioned it.
She came in one day on a payday and we offered her a cup of coffee to go and some cookies. We always have those things out in the front office on payday for our employees.
She has been so nice ever since. And, we don't get the wrong mail anymore.

At any rate, my first thought is you need to find out for sure if it's her or not and then go from there.

Best wishes.
