Nail Polish on White Cotton

Any ideas on how to get nail polish (bright pink) out of white cotton? My daughter tried on a new dress with a white cotton top while her nail polish was still wet and the polish is now on the white top of the dress that cannot be bleached. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Well, this is a suggestion on what to do if you just CAN'T get it out. I've had to modify my response to similar type accidents.

If you simply CAN NOT get the polish out-then go with it. Grab the bottle of polish-lay the shirt out flat and paint on a tiny flower or small cluster of flowers where the polish got on the shirt. If it's in a strange spot you can always create little clusters of flowers here and there until it looks like it's MEANT to be there!

Or hearts or starts or whatever you wish. My kiddo gets stuff on her clothing all the time that is next to impossible to get out. Like Black permanent marker. All tricks aside-I finally sketched in a few daisies with long stems and the pants look like the flowers were already there. When we get compliments I just smile. LOL

Perhaps what someone else said will work for you. I've never been lucky with getting polish out of carpet-acetone or not. For me it always just kinda smears and makes a bigger spot. All the better for a colored in heart or center spot of simple flower...lol

Another suggestion if you just don't feel artsy is that you could simply gather cute pieces of cloth-even different textures in white (wherever fabric is sold there's often scraps you can purchase at reduced price) and simply sew on patches to cover up that spot and then add a few others to offset that one. Or if you're a non-sewer they have that nifty glue or iron on tape that makes patches and hemming a breeze!

Just a few ideas in case you find getting the polish out won't happen.

Blessings!

If you can get it out-Great! In my experience I made it worse by trying. What we have done in those cases, is used it as a art lesson- There are many options! Tye Dye is back in style and very easy. They have kits at all stores. Or fabric paint a design over the spot or iron/sew on patches. Not just one so it looks like you are covering something up, but several. Hobby Lobby has very cute iron ons. Good Luck!

I often use Oxiclean and it does wonders for me. When I have a really tough stain I wet the garmet and place enough Oxiclean on the stain and let it set and dry overnight and then I throw it in the wash.Try this I hope this works. I also have used hair spray to get ink stains out maybe it will work on nail polish. I wish you the best. God bless.

Don't use nail polish remover. Acetone is the best thing and just be sure to wash it well after you've gotten the polish out. Acetone works on carpet as well. You can get a bottle of it at Sally's Beauty Supply or any hardware store.

I would use a cotton ball soaked with pure acetone and blot the area carefully.

I've done this on my white carpet with black nail polish and it worked.

Good luck.

1. try nail polish remover, apply with applicator and remove with q-tip. check to see if there is a oily resiue remains. If there is you have 2 choices, if the dress can be washed in a regular washing machine, then proceed as the washer should get rid of the oily residue from the nail polish remover. 2nd choic you can get a dry cleaner called Energene found on the lundry shelf at a grocery store or hot shot for carpets found at lows, home depot, neither of thse 2 products leave an oily resdue.
