I don't wanna take the morning after pill but... Im not smart enough to figure out the effectiveness of the nuva.
So maybe you can help.

I took the ring out after week 4 this was on Tuesday night. It was out until this Tuesday when I put it back in. Last night I had unprotected sex and my partner thinks I should take the morning after pill because we don't know if the nuva needs 7 days in your body to be "effective" can anyone clear this up for me?

What can I do next?

Call your GYN or your pharmacist.
I always used NuvaRing for three weeks on, one week off.

When I was on the nuva ring I was told 3 weeks in, 1 week out, then put in new ring. Call your doctor or ask a pharmacist to see what they recommend.

When I was using it I was using it 4 weeks in and then immediately put the next one in. We were intentionally trying to limit/stop my cycles due to some problems. So you can go 4 weeks and still have it be effective. Unfortunately I had so much "breakthrough" bleeding (in other words it seemed like I never stopped bleeding) and the hormones caused some serious depression issues so I had to stop that treatment plan personally, but it's not like that with everyone.
I don't think you would need the morning after pill. I would call your OB to be sure and to make you and your husband feel better.

As I always understood the use of any birth control was 3 weeks on and the one week of to have a period then start the procedure over and continue that indefinitely. That's how BC works. The ring of pills is 3 weeks of one color then 1 week of a different color that are basically a sugar pill used to keep you in the habit of taking a pill each day. Then the newer styles came out and most still use that lunar cycle of 28 days to do the cycle. I would think you need to ask the doc to be sure but I would not have even wondered about this.

My OB/GYN told me that using the ring 4 weeks in, 1 week out was fine and it was just as effective as 3 weeks in, 1 week out. He said there is enough medicine in there that it will last for 4 weeks. You can also take one out after 4 weeks and put another ring in immediately after and not have a period that month but he said to not do that more than 3 months in a row.
