One of Those Days

What do you do to decompress when you've had "one of those days"? You know, the kind where you yelled a few too many times, the kids trashed every corner of the house when you turned your head for a moment, and the 2 year old decided to say NO to everything, and then, after being excused from dinner, comes back into the kitchen 30 minutes later seeking food! And of course no one wanted to go to bed ;-)

Hubby has been away this week. He was gone all last week too. I am suppose to go to book club tomorrow night, but hubby has surgery (nothing serious), so I highly doubt I will get a night out. I haven't had a girl's night out in over 6 months.

I'm having a drink at the moment, but I know I need to go crawl in bed with a book and just let my body rest.

What do you do when you've had one of those terrible days?

What can I do next?

Oh wow... Today has been one of those days for me. My oldest cut his hair, and ate a penny today. Then, after bathtime a few minutes ago, I stubbed my toe and ripped off half my toenail!!!

After the kids go to bed in 30 minutes, I am planning on drinking a nice cold beer and watching my favorite tv show...

It seems like every day is "one of those days" around here. I try to get my kids in bed as early as possible, then I can have some quiet time. I read or watch TV. I take a little time to do some deep breathing and it really calms me down. If I'm too keyed up to sleep, I will spend some time in prayer. I'm Catholic so I will say The Hail Mary while picturing her in my mind and reflecting on the words. It always helps me feel peaceful enough to fall asleep. Best wishes!

Well, my day was just like yours, but my kids are still up swarming around me, I have no wine, and my husband has been gone since August and wont' be home until Christmas. My two year old not only wouldn't eat and got hungry right after, she's been chasing me around all night asking me to change her socks and shoes, which I've done, like 40 times. I have to lead a book group tomorrow for daughter's homeschool class but instead of preparing my activity I'm on mamapedia zoning out. Girl's night? What's THAT? joking. My girlfriend is picking me up tomorrow night and her husband is watching the kids because they know I'm on a short short fuuuuuuuuuse....aaaaaggggghhhh

I understand... stop, close eyes, and be thankful that your kids seem normal. Im very high anxiety and I also am trying different things. Hot bath and mommy's bible. They have a great one at Sams or anywhere.
This may sound crazy but drink a cup of warm warm, plain water. Kinda soothing ! Keep me posted!

I take a bath, make myself a cup of tea, take it up to my room, lock the door and watch tv. They know not to interrupt me--there'll be heck to pay!

Deep breathing close my eyes and try to drown everything out... and when I'm not prego I drink a glass of wine. Sometimes I will sit in my room for 5-10 minutes or so just to have a moment with no tv and the door shut. You can't really do that seeing as your hubby isn't there at the moment.

I say when he recovers you have an entire day for you! Go out to lunch with a friend get your nails done, window shop... something for a few hours then go see a movie of YOUR choice! You deserve it, 6 months is a long time with out a day to yourself.
I hope everything goes well with your hubbys surgery and you are able to get that time you SO need! Take care.

I just unplug. Shut the door, long bath, glass of wine, good book-ready to start again the next day....

Lots of good advice. Know you are ARE NOT alone. That you are doing a great job, and sleep will help. Deep breathing is a great way to release tension and let your body relax. IF you can get a sitter even for an hour soon, go get yourself a cup of coffee or wander around a book store and let your mind escape a bit. Sleep well!!

I remember those days. I am hoping tomorrow goes better! I would have a glass of wine, watch a mindless repeat on TV and usually fall asleep in the living room. or go to bed and surl up in warm blankets to read and fall asleep. A good nights rest will fix most things! Tonight, and my kids are older now, I am sitting in the middle of a trashed house with laundry and dished to finish. I made a rule 2 years ago that I am done at bed time. A clean house is not more important that sanity. As soon as the kids are in bed. My time starts, it really is helpful to just let go, especially when you don't get time out a lot!

Good luck

I've had a week of it. My flight was late, then almost crashed during landing last night, today two of my staff found one of our clients had hanged himself, and now they are traumatised, and tonight my husband is having a depressive episode, blaming it on me. And I have a sore throat. I just hope it's a bit better tomorrow.

I go to yoga (usually Bikram). When I'm done I feel calm and relaxed. Otherwise I go for a walk. The fresh air always helps.

I run, take a shower/bath until there is not a drop of hot water left, put on my big comfy pink robe and go to bed. :) During it all, I remind myself that they may be having a rough day too...not feeling well, missing Daddy, etc. If you only have these once in a great while, feel lucky. :)
