Hi... I'm 31 weeks pg and have had severe chapped lips on/off since becoming pregnant.... These past couple of days my lip has been burning and hurting and just got swollen to double it's size... Has anyone ever experienced this?

What can I do next?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and have had a similar problem for many weeks now. I have a history of allergies and in my case I know it is allergies causing my problem. The only thing that relieves my dryness and itching is Aquaphor ointment. Good luck and hope you feel better!!

Definitely see your doctor. It could be an allergy, herpes or an infection.

Could you be dehydrated and it is affecting a case of Herpes simplex? Stress and dehydration can affect it, if you have it.

Sounds like an allergic reaction to me. It took me years to figure out I was allergic to mangoes. Lip swelling was the most prominent symptom. Good luck.

I agree on ruling out allergy. If it is not allergy, just remember that dehydration is a cause for an enormous number of symptoms that can all be really scary. I'm 34 weeks preg. too - we need to be drinking AT LEAST 65-70 oz. a day
hope you feel better!

Pregnancy dehydrates you. Are you getting enough fluids. Also, try Burt's Bee's Lip gloss. Alot of other brands have alcohol in them (any word that ends in -ol) and this actually dries out your lips more and gets you to use their product more. Burt's Bees is a natural product. I live on Burt's and never have a problem even in the worst of winter.

I am not an expert, but you should definitely see a doctor about it.

If your lips are swollen, you must make sure it is not a severe allergic reaction that could make its way to your air way.

I believe that swollen soft tissue of the face can be related to hormonal changes and is often called angioedema. I get that along with hives on occasion. A good endocrinologist could be a good starting point (of course mention it to your ob/gyn as well).

Good luck!

This crazy weather has caused us all to let our guard down about the dryness of Winter weather. Remember, even when it's cold you still need plenty of fluids. And the bigger that baby gets the more fluids you need. Drink extra water and use some Blistex or something for chapped lips. HTH

This could be a number of things including Herpes, a dental infection, or an allergic reaction. You should call your doctor right away to have her take a look, and see if your dentist may be able to see you too. An untreated infection could be dangerous for you and your baby.
