Hey all-

If the clomid doesn't do its thing this month, I'm going to move on to an RE. For those of you that have used a reproductive endo. in kansas city, could you let me know who you have gone to and your opinion, both from the standpoint of expertise/results and bedside manner? Thanks so much!

Hi Rebecca!

I absolutely loved my RE, Dr. Dan Gehlbach in Olathe. His bedside manner is great, he is straight forward and honest without being harsh and I felt like he genuinelly cared about our success getting pregnant with my son (we concieved him with injectables and an IUI). His staff is great, especially Jennifer (nurse) and Sheryl (she helps with all the insurance related stuff). You can go to their website at http://www.midwestreproductive.com/ and dowload a questionaire to call and ask your insurance company so you know exactly what they cover. Depending on when you need to be seen for your cycle, they see patients on weekends too. The only "warning" I would give you is that that the receptionist, Diane, can be a bit gruff. Best of luck!

You've gotten a lot of responses. I'd just like to throw in my 2 cents. I saw Dr. Daniel Stewart, office next to Shawnee Mission Hospital. I also saw Dr. Daniel Gelbach, he was practicing with Dr. Stewart at the time. I really liked Dr. Gelbach, he's caring and just plain nice. Those people that said what matters is the final result are right, but only to a certain point. When things are not going well you need a doctor with compassion. These offices should be able to give you success rate numbers, ask! I have a wonderful 10 year old and an ornerey 6 year old.

I wish you the best of luck.

I didn't use them, but my sister and her husband went to Reproductive Resource Center in Overland Park. It's in the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, I believe or near it. Anyway, they used Dr. Celeste Brabec and they both just loved her and I have a beautiful almost 4 year old niece to show for it! Their website is www.rrc.com. Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck! God bless!

Hi Rebecca, we saw Gregory Starks MD. He has offices right by Research Hospital and also up north. We have a very cool 4-year old son as a result (in vitro). My now-retired OB (Dr. Ferns) referred us to Dr. Starks, saying "He's gotten more women in KC pregnant than just about anyone else." Dr. Starks can seem a little gruff but he also has a good sense of humor. Also, he is an excellent surgeon (I say that from experience, and the nurses at Research have told me the same) and he has a BIG heart. He even came to our son's baptism! I highly recommend him, and he's got great nurses working with him. Best of luck to you!!

If you are willing to go outside of Kansas City, we use Dr. Smotrich in La Jolla, CA (San Diego). I believe he's #2 in the nation per the CDC Reports. He got us twins (and plenty left over) on the first try! Let me know if you want additional information!

I've seen both Dr. Starks and Dr. Lyles and I would have to recommend Dr. Lyles. I was not happy with the care and concern that Dr. Starks and his office staff gave me. First off, he seemed to talk too fast-and it seemed as if he'd been doing it for so long that he probably gave the same speech to everyone...you know, like he could say it in his sleep. Secondly, he did not make sure I had a hysterosalphinogram done before he started me on all the drugs, etc,. He might have mentioned to me that I needed to have this done, but the whole process was new to me and I would have hoped he made sure that it was done (and he had the results of the procedure) before starting me on all of the meds. Thirdly, during another round of artificial insemination, when I asked what would happen next if this didn't work, he seemed to dismiss my concerns...to more or less just concentrate on this round. I was told that the if I had a risk of multiple pregnancies, they would talk to me about it. Well, I had 7 follicles that looked very promising of becoming eggs and all the consoling I received was "how do you feel about multiples?" in a joking way from one of the nurses. It was after I got home that realized that was it...I was not going to receive a phone call from Dr. Starks where he would explain what the best thing to do in a situation like that was. Finally, I was seeing Dr. Starks during the time of the Robert Courtney pharmacy scandal (he's the pharmacist that diluted chemo drugs for financial gain). Unfortunately for me, one of the drugs Dr. Starks recommended for me was Lupron (also used by cancer patients) and to have it filled by Courtney's pharmacy, which was downstairs from Stark's office. Needless to say, in my heart, I know that Lupron was diluted by Courntey (I had a period while on this medicine that was supposed to supress my periods...and I was having very few peroids a year to begin with....that's why I was seeing a R.E.). When the scandal broke, I called Dr. Stark's office and they didn't think that was an issue. It is documented by the FBI that he did dilute Lupron....so why didn't Starks even think it was a possibilty? Shortly afterwords, I decided to switch to Dr. Lyles and after one round of ICSI, we became pregnant and had a wonderful baby boy who is now five. Sure it helps that Dr Lyles didn't doubt that the Lupron was diluted by that sick man, and that I got pregnant while under his care. However, I really was disappointed in so many ways by Dr. Starks that I felt I should let you know.

.I usedd Dr. Lyles at Reproductive Resource Center. He's one of THE best in KC. People complain that he doesn't have the best bedside manner, however, he was nothing but nice to me and even joked around with me. My personal feelings are you go to him for a reason. Hezs good at what he does so having a Dr be straight to the point is what I expect.

I became pregnant 2x while seeing Dr. Lyles (1st time ended in miscarriage). I am currently 27 wks pregnant and I have Dr. Lyles and his staff to thank for that. I also know several other ladies who went there and either are pregnant or have had children after treatment. Dr. Brabec is also pretty good. She is in the same practice as Dr. Lyles. Let me know if you would like more info or a phone number.
