Ride on Toy for a Toddler

The John Deere battery-powered Gator has been a great ride-on toy for my boys. They have it at their grandparents acreage and it goes from driveway to gravel to grass with no problem. It has 2 speeds + reverse and there is an electric plug-in to charge the battery when it gets low. They got it when the boys were 3 and 1. They are 6 and 4 now and STILL ride it all over the place. It's worth the extra money for the durability in my book. Just an idea...! Hope you find something that works great for you.

We have the Lightening McQueen Ride and Push. We bought it last year for my son's 1st birthday and he still loves it! Lights, sounds, music and a little storage compartment. He pushes it through the grass like a lawnmower when we're outside- it's a great investment and under $70.

You could get him something like this, so he can push around toys, or put treasures in there/help you and daddy work in the yard:

My son has a little motorcycle that I got at Target and he is crazy over the thing. It does move through the grass easily and it helps teach them balance and he uses his legs so it's good exercise. Not sure if this would be something you would be interested in.

Please buy him something that is human powered so that he gets some exercise while he is outside. He is too little to pedal yet but there are some cute little tractors that he should be able to easily get on and off of without help that he can push around with his legs.Look for narrow seats so that if he gets stuck, he can just stand up while straddling the seat and reorient the vehicle himself. This advice comes from a PT who works w/ little ones.

I agree with the John Deer Gator. My kids have it and it works great going over gravel, dirt and grass at our house. But I am concerned about a 19 month old driving it. My daughter is almost 2 1/2 and she does not steer it well. I can not have her driving it without me right there or she runs into things. My son who is 5 drives and she rides most of the time.

If you are looking for a push ride-on then the Step 2 whisper ride buggy is great.
