Hi Moms,
Right now my 2 1/2 year old son has his own room and has been in a big boy bed for a year. The crib is also in his room but we've had the baby who is now 4 months in the guest room in the bassinet. I am reluctant to give up the guest room so we've decided that the boys will share the bedroom. Our 4 month old has just about outgrown the bassinet and will need to go in the crib. He is pretty much sleeping through the night...Any suggestions on how to make this transistion so both baby and toddler get sleep with out disrupting or waking eachother??? Thanks

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for your great advice. We are on day two now of the baby sleeping in the same room with his brother. The baby has taken well to his crib instead of the bassinet. We are working on adjusting the morning schedule :) My husband hopped out of bed at 5:45 this morning to get him so he would not wake up the older one LOL! I am sure we will keep making progress and adjustments as needed...After all the little guy at 5 months old has outgrown the bassinet...Thanks again!

hmmm...my girls sleep together in bunk beds since they were 2 and 3. With a baby and a toddler...I would put toddler down first. then rock baby and put baby down. It really depends on how each of them go to sleep and how well they sleep. I do suggest an air machine though. It is just white noise and my girls have slept with it since they were small. I got mine in the skymall catalog! Good Luck and keep us posted!!!

My boys are 22 months apart and share a room. We would put our oldest down first, then our youngest. The problem was that our oldest loved our youngest so much that we would find him sleeping in his brother's crib!

We started at nap time so they would both be able to get used to the idea. We used a humidifier for white noise so they would not be able to hear every single sound. They've been sleeping in the same room for more than a year, and things are going great. One will sleep through the other, and it works well.

Our boys are 23 months apart and started sharing a room when baby was 6 months old. We had no problems at all, even though our youngest woke up for a bottle till he was over 12 months, our oldest was able to sleep through it all.

My boys have shared a room their whole life. We moved my my younger son into the room at night at about 4 months. For nap time (since they were on different schedules and nap time was precious to me) my younger son napped in the pack and play in the den. We never had any problem at bedtime.

My 6 year old has had his own room for awhile. Now he shares with his 2 week old brother. The first couple of nights he woke up a lot when I went in there to nurse, but then he got used to it and sleeps straight through.

Eventually they will get used to each other's sounds and learn to sleep through it, not to say there won't be some transitional peroid. My boys (21 months apart) shared a room for the first 10 years of their lives, one is a great sleeper, the other is nocturnal, I put the sleeper to bed first and waited til he was well into sleep before putting the non-sleeper down...they are 17 and 16 now and their sleep habits are still the same though they have not shared a room for years...........one note, when we built a house big enough for EVERYONE to have their own room, they were reluctant to give up their roommates and each spent most of his time in the others room.....

My 4 year old nephew and infant niece share a room and they don't seem to have any problems at all.

I have triplet girls (16 mos) who just had to get use to their sisters noise. I ignored it and it is now perfectly fine.

Best of luck to you!
