Single Serve Coffee Makers...

Not really a mom question I guess, I would really appreciate your input...I am just SO over being in charge to making coffee at 6 AM and have been looking into getting a "one-cup" machine for weekdays. Both hubby and I only drink that one cup in the morning and it would be SO convenient to just have to push a button.

So, I have been leaning towards the Senseo, which uses compostable pods and is pretty cheap, howver the reviews are more lukewarm.
Keurig and Tassimo are both a bit pricier, as are the pods for these, both many people swear by them. Any insight? Do you own one and LOVE or HATE it?
We won't be giving up our regular machine, this is just purely for the conveniece of it.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

we love senseo but have to buy a bunch of pods whenever we see them because they go on sale for $3 or 4 and sell out fast. Plus, i can't find them at walmart ever and they say they don't carry them.
My husband uses 2 pods and puts mocha flavoring into his cup. he stopped going to starbucks which here is 7 for the quad. white mocha.
we do not ever drink any other flavors.

I worked in retail for a decade, and saw two of these introduced into the market. We had customers return the Senseo's for the Keurig, and my personal experience is the Keurig is the way to go. There are way more choices of coffees, teas and cocoas to choose from, and the cups are a lot less messy than the pouches the Senseo requires. I am not familiar with The Tassimo, so maybe that one is better, but I can't say.

I love my Keurig. I have had it for years. My dad got it at a home show when they first came out. I only drink one or two cups a day. It is perfect...nice fast cup of coffee. I get 4 cases of green mountain delivered every three months. You get a discount for being a member.

You should totally get one if you guys only drink 1 cup each. I have the Keurig and do like it. I only wish that there were Starbucks inserts for it. Not crazy about the tastes of the coffees that I have tried for it. But then again I am picky about coffee.

The Keurig is also awesome for hot chocolate. My boys LOVE it!

I don't drink coffee so I can't really help you out on your question, but I found this post from my SIL to be fitting. I thought it was quite funny! "Women shouldn't always be expected to make the coffee the first thing each morning. As a matter of fact the Bible says, "Hebrews"."

Well i have the keurig. I got it as a pass down from my sister through my parents. Her man now drinks like a pot at a time. I never us the cups. I have the thing for ground coffee. We love it.
And mine replaced a nice cusinart one, which seriously made my butt hurt ;)
Love it. I buy nice coffee and either get it in smaller batches ground or grind it myself.
Yes we are coffee snobs. And it works great from us, oh and my coffee grounds go right into my compost pile.

I know the Keurig has a reusable pod that you can use your own coffee grounds in (but still works the same way).

That eliminates some of the waste.

I'm getting a Keurig for Xmas this year.

Nearly every household in our family has a Keurig machine. We have had ours for about 5 years now and we love it! It so nice to be able to make just one cup when ever you want it. We use a French press if we are having guests and want to make a larger amount of coffee, but we're just as likely to get a multi pak of flavored K-cups if we're having guests over. On the downside, the K-cups are not recyclable or compostable. On the upside, they do make a re-fillable K-cup that you can use with your own coffee. That way there is limited waste and you can compost your coffee grounds. I'm not sure that Tassimo or Senseo have that option. Ours has held up well, survived a move and shows no sign of breaking down, but once it does, we will replace with another Keurig machine.

I don't have experience with anything except the Keurig, but I will say that the Keurig is a workhorse. My husband is a pastor, and we also have a small day school. The kindergarten teacher bought a Keurig to use at school since there are just the two teachers and my husband, and she drinks decaf - they don't. Well, that was 4 years ago. After 4 years of daily use and many users on Sunday morning before Bible Class, it's still pumping out perfect cups of coffee every time. We did a lot of taste testing (if you wait for the sale at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and then use the coupon that is always on the back of their fliers you get the lowest price we've been able to find) and my husband who is an espresso guy settled on Emerill's Big Bold. There are tons of choices.
Good luck!

We have 2 different Keurig's and love them both! (Each one for a different reason- office/home.) We still have our "Mocha Pot" and regular coffee maker but the single cup ones are wonderful for either a group who all want something different or, as in my case, one person is suddenly the only one drinking ANYTHING!!!! (I suffer from Hyperemesis and frankly can't stand it when my husband makes a whole pot to stink up the house...thank you Keurig!!!!!!)

I have a Cuisinart that uses pods like the senseo. I liked the senseo, but we use it every day 4-6 times a day and it just did not stand up to the use. The Cuisinart has been great. I bought it on sale for about the same price as the senseo. I also wanted to continue using compostable pods. The best part is that my husband has his favorite (dunkin donut style light roast) coffee and I can make mine (dark roast flavorful). I can also keep decaf or flavored coffees on hand for guests. I purchase the pods in bulk at coffeewiz.com to get the free shipping. Anyway, I have had the machine for well over a year and it gets serious use, but it has been great.
Good luck,
C.

I had the Senseo...bought it for work. I ended up using it for about a 2 or 3 weeks. the water holder literally holds like 2 cups of water. I was never good about refilling the water. Mine worked fine..I just wish I had a water valve tied to it..ha ha
It cant hurt...Christmas is coming up...ask for it.:)

I have the Tassimo and have had it for 2 years. I love it. I am the only one who drinks coffee so it makes sense to have one cup brewed just for me. I like that I can get Starbucks coffee and Seattle's Best. I enjoy that fresh cup every morning. When my in laws come it makes delicious hot chocolate for my mother and law and husband when he's in the mood. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond, use your 20% off coupons they take the expired ones as well. It's worth the money, you aren't wasting money by making a whole pot of coffee just for that one cup.

There are two things, household things, that my husband has bought for me in the 7 years that we have been married that I will just die without. One is my Temper Pedic bed and the second is my Keurig coffe maker. It is so wonderful. My four year old can make my cup of coffee in the morning :) My husband does not drink coffee and I only drink one to two cups per day. It makes a great cup of coffee and there are so many choices to choose from when it comes to the type of coffee you can get. Also with a little adapter you can use what ever coffee you like. You do not have to buy the pods. I love mine so much that my husband bought me a small one for my birthday this year so I could have one at my desk at work! Yeah!
Hope this helps

My folks have a Keurig and they love it. I used it while home and it was nice. It holds enough water so you don't have to refill it every day. There are a lot of variety to the pods, even teas (black, herbal, green, sweet, etc.) and hot chocolate in different flavors.

My dad likes a couple of the coffees, but not others. He had a few on hand, so I got to try 4-5 different ones. I usually drank the ones he didn't like, but I thought they were quite good. I like Starbucks, he likes instant (used to anyway- yuck) so he was able to get rid of those he doesn't like.

It was really easy to use and took very little time. Write to Keurig and suggest biodegradable cups. Couldn't hurt.

My mom wanted to get us one, but we rarely drink coffee and we like to make a pot of tea in our regular coffee pot and use it for iced tea for the week. I like green tea and just pop a mug in the microwave for 2 minutes. I think it would have just been wasted on us. In the past, when I drank 1-2 cups of coffee a day, I think I would have liked the Keurig.

We have a Keurig - bought from Costco. It came with about 80 k-cups with it so it was a really good buy. I got it for similar reasons as you - we drink more than 1 cup on the weekends but during the week, there is only time for me to get 1 cup per day. My hubby has an esspresso machine and he has to have that (so he says) but it takes too long - plus I am not much of a milk drinker to have a latte. We still have our 12 cup coffee maker that we use when people come over but I was finding that it cost too much to make even a 1/2 pot when I only drink 1 cup. Anyway, last year, I went ahead and bought the Keurig because I heard that it was good.

I have to say that it makes the perfect cup - they have a fabulous variety of coffees, teas and hot chocolates. Plus, if you have a favorite loose coffee variety, you can use the attachment that comes with it rather than buy the k-cups. My mom was very skeptical when she came to visit and finally got her to try a cup from it. She was sold (this is a woman who for all her life has had several cups a day simply because she didnt want to throw away part of a pot of coffee!). She has been on the search for a Keurig (she says she will be shopping the holiday sales for it) and she will use her beloved Folgers with it.

Needless to say, I love, love, love my Keurig! I think I will always have a Keurig from now on.

I love my keurig..I've gone through 3 of them:-) I keep buying another one.
One reason is I had house guests both time and they don' t know how to use it. If you read the directions and use it like it designed.. it is the easiest and BEST coffee by far. Pop it in press the button and hot coffee! It brews at the correct temp which I love. I drink decaf and that has been a challenge to get it strong enough so had to get the new version with smaller cup size. Costco has the best deal and has 30 bucks of free coffee with it
great Christmas gift!

I love my Senseo. We bought reusable pods (plastic) off of Amazon (some of the reviews said they were hard to use but I strongly disagree) and use our own espresso (we drink mostly Vietnamese coffee). You have to grind the coffee finer than drip for it to work right, or the coffee is bland. So, either grind your own at the store, as you use it, or buy an espresso grind. We also found it makes a great cup of tea, just use loose tea in the pod or a tea bag. We use it all the time, and it's a simple design easy to maintain and clean.
I don't know much about the price, I won mine on their web site, they are always running specials and give-aways. All I had to pay was the $15 shipping charge.

I love love LOVE my Keurig maker!!! And the cost isn't really an issue, because you consider how much you are throwing away with an undrank (undrunk?) pot of coffee or going to Starbucks, and they pretty much equal out.

And even though it says that the K-cups are single use, if I want a big cup of coffee, I use the same one twice. When the first time is done brewing, you just open the top and close it right back up and press brew again. You don't have to worry about grounds in your coffee because since you aren't removing the cup, it still uses the same hole that is already punched. This way you can have a 20 oz cup of coffee (if you have the machine with the 9.25oz setting) using just one K-cup.

We are thinking of getting one also. Can anyone comment on how loud the Keurig is? Would it wake up kids early in the morning while it is brewing?
