Hello,

My husband and I want to take a family trip skiing this Christmas with our two little ones (ages 5 and 19 mos.) We are thinking about Colorado as we have both skiied there many times, but are not completely against the idea of New Mexico. We are going to drive, but we could really use some help (i.e. suggestions and recomendations) on places to stay. Any specific places that you have stayed at that are kid friendly, close to the slopes and resonably priced would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I skied Taos NM years ago and adored it, but can't speak to kid friendly since I was in high school. In colorado, Beaver Creek is a fantastic family mountain, tons of green and blue runs for everyone. There is also a children's museum in the village, ice skating, and an adventure mountain for tubing and stuff. You can stay down in Avon, the town below the ski village, and take bus shuttles up to ski. I would check VRBO, much better to have a kitchen than have to dine out.

We love Eagle/Vail, CO and skiing at Beaver Creek. We stayed at a house we found on Vacation Rentals By Owner: http://www.vrbo.com/337087

The house was awesome and the kids/family had a great time. It helped to keep the costs down, since we could come in and have our own food/drinks, etc. instead of having to eat out every meal. Good luck to you!

I would go to Taos...and you can do day trips and also downhill ski at Angel Fire and Red River (they are all very close). We love Angel Fire - it's great for kids too. I've seen lots of cute places to stay but since I live within driving distance I don't know what to recommend.

I can only tell you that Santa Fe and Taos are wonderful, beautiful places that are magic at Christmas. TAOS is for the very skilled skiers though, so don't go there unless you want a challenge. All the Swiss style architecture and lodging is gorgeous and very Chistmasy.
Santa Fe is a great family mountain. Skiing for all skill levels. It's beautiful at Christmas too, but instead of looking like a Swiss Ski Chalet like Taos, it's an adobe, Native American feel. Lots of Gorgeous Catholic Churches and everyone does the luminarias.

Red River NM. They have tons of rental homes, Red River isnt a very big town at all, and pretty much anywhere you stay is within walking distance of skiing. (and its much cheaper than Taos) Another great option is Ruidoso in southern NM
Taos isnt really a kid friendly place at all. (Its a town that is really geared towards weathly older tourists)
