Hi ladies! My question is about a slip n slide in my back yard. I did not buy one that is a "real" slip n slide. I bought a 100' long insulation plastic roll that was 8' wide. Needless to say, it was a TON of fun for everyone. The problem I'm having is, we put baby soap on the plastic to get even more zip (along with the sprinkler at the top). The grass seems to be getting burnt. I assume from getting water in the worst heat of the day & probably from the soap too. Do you have any suggestions on saving my yard and still having a killer slip n slide? We've already set it up twice this year and are wanting to do it at least one more time before the super hot days are gone. Any suggestions? Thanks!
That's kind of what I figured. I was hoping there was a miracle spray or something to put on it to give it CPR. LOL! We do remove it every time we use it. I think the use of soap effects it harshly too. Expedites the burning process I guess. But like one of ya said, it's worth the memories. :) Thanks!
Growing up, my parents constantly dealt with this. They never did solve it. Just one day of using the slip'n'slide could ruin a lawn for the entire season. I don't know how you save the lawn, but I can tell you that my parents knew (and it sounds like you do, too) that the memories created and the fun had was totally worth the time they had to wait for the lawn to recover.
Not to mention the damage it's doing to your children with the whiplash to their necks and the harsh jumble to there soft bones and spine. No to slip and slides.
We had the same issue with our slip n slide. It is unfortunate that all the fun takes such a toll on the grass. Like other posters have already said, just put the slide away at the end of the day and eventually the grass comes back. Perhaps try putting the slide in a different spot in the yard next time in an effort to let the current spot recover.
Sounds like fun, I would think fertilizer? My daughter's blow up pool kills a circle of grass every summer, but husbands takes care of it when the pool goes away for the summer, and you would never know where it was until the pool comes back out the following spring!! Good Luck!
It is going to take the grass a bit of time to 'rehabilitate'... to normal condition.
But you have to remove the slip and slide.
There is no way, the grass can get back to normal condition at the same time the slip n' slide is still there.
But, it will/can get back to normal condition. Gradually.
Water the grass that will be under the Slip n Slide before laying it down. Before your kids slide for the first time put a little soap directly on them, and not on the slide.
If you leave the "slip in slide" on the grass when you're not using it, it will deprive the grass of the sun it needs and the grass will die. We just remove our slide after the fun of the day and replace it the next time the kids want to play.
Use a biodegradable soap. Castille soap would be the best. Your grass won't thrive but it won't burn it out.
