Spin-off...what Chore Do You Love?

It was a fun question, but I found myself thinking more of what I actually enjoy, so I'll repeat my answer in part.

Although I hate actually doing the laundry, I am motivated to do it because of what happens when I don't (see other question.) I love to fold it. I sit on the floor, get in some great leg stretches, and it's very rewarding to have nice little perfect piles of everything. I don't like putting it away, but again, I'm very motivated because of what happens if I don't (again, see question regarding hated chores.)

I love to clean my house, because it's rewarding. I love to rearrange furniture, and do it way too often, because it makes everything seem new and is a great opportunity to really clean well.

I used to hate cleaning the shower...until I took an SOS pad to it one day and realized that this is obviously what they are intended for. Now it's a snap!

So, what chores do you like...and more importantly, why? With a little insight into why we like the things we do, maybe we can all enjoy our chores a bit more!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh, the SOS pads work SOO well in the tub and shower! Honestly, I hated cleaning the shower and dumping on Comet and I'd tried every cleaner out there to get rid of crazy soap scum...the SOS pad does it in about two seconds, with hardly any scrubbing. My mom freaked out when I told her, saying I was going to scratch the enamel or whatever, but I've been doing it for a few years and my tub and shower always looks brand-spanking-new.

I don't like doing dishes either, but I finally took my mother's advice and started doing them after each meal. Takes way less time than saving the entire day's dishes for after supper, when I just want to sit down. "Clean as you go." I can hear my mom say it. My mom is absolutely OC about cleaning...always has been, and that's not just my opinion...but I've learned some tips from her that make it easier. Like, "If you wipe your sink out every day it won't take you 10 minutes to scrub it!" Except I'm pretty sure she wipes hers out after every use.

None, and I mean that seriously. I clean my house, because I have to. There is not one thing I like about it. I have tried soooo hard to find ways to like cleaning and nothing has worked. I clean often throughout the day, so that I don't have to do anything for more then 5 minutes at a time. If I have to clean longer, I feel like chopping my own arms off, so I have an excuse not to clean.

I love doing laundry. I'm a compulsive nut job about it, but I really love it. There's something so satisfying about sorting it (whites, delicate whites, sanitize whites, darks, delicate darks, sanitize darks). I'm one of those crazy people that actually tumbles dry on low heat when the label says to do that. I'll hang things dry, dry flat, whatever. Then I sort the dry laundry as it comes out of the dryer, into a basket for each person in the family. As you might imagine, I'm also a nut about how things get folded. I feel like laundry day is the only day of the week when I feel a little zen.

I guess that's the only chore I really love. The rest of them, I barely tolerate. ;)

Alright, I'm the freak. I think I was made to be an Italian peasant living off the land. I love physical chores. Anything that makes me work. I actually collect the grey water in a barrel next to my washing machine and bucket water my garden. I like a clean house. I like downsizing and tidying. I know, freak. But, I'm okay with it.

Conversely, my job is abstract. Therapy is not concrete except for the notes I keep. I enjoy the concrete nature of 'keeping house.'

I like getting up early enough to wake my boys up, make their lunches, and kiss them as they leave. I usually wake them up and kiss them, but don't make a lot of lunches. I always feel like an extra good mom when I do that.
Other than that...I hate house cleaning, laundry, dishes, all of it. I am not a very good house wife I guess!

Like Riley J's answer.
I used to be the one in my family, to polish all the shoes and handbags. I loved to do that.
I have not done that since my Dad passed away.
I used to go over and do it for him, while he was ill.
It was a real treat, for me. And he looked forward to it.
Then while I was at it, I would polish my Mom's and her handbags. After all, she was stressed from caring for my Dad.
But even as a child, I loved doing this, for my parents.

I 'like' most chores, except as I mentioned before, I HATE grocery shopping and ironing.
But I actually like most chores... EXCEPT, when everyone is home.
Then it is a pain in the arse.
I rather do it, if/when NO one is home.
More relaxing that way.
;)
But...I do not "love" any particular chore.

I love to wash bedding and towels. I'm a little OCD about it because I thoroughly enjoy the scent and softness of freshly laundered bedding and towels.

*Note going to see if I can use SOS in my shower/tub to make cleaning easier.*

- I love cooking. Particularly with other people. Kids, adults, I don't care. Put on some music, sharpen the knives, pour a drink, chat/chop/char. Love it.

- I love remodeling. This is actually a chore in my fixer upper. Whether its painting/ fence building/ shopping for hardware... When things are going well, we do something every week (we = son & Me'self). Its a weekly chore that didn't happen for almost 2 years (medical & divorce) that is JUST kicking back into gear.

- I love "field day". That a top to bottom scrub. With pizza, music, and all hands on deck. Again, its people/group oriented. Typically takes 2 hours. Followed by movies or Videogames & vegging out. Its a military thing (except back when, we had beer). Every Thursday night, so the barracks are spotless before we headed out for the weekends regrets. These days, FieldDay is Tuesdays. Kiddo comes home on Monday, we FieldDay on Tuesday... And the house is clean for the week.

- I love polishing wood/leather. Including leather shoes, but I really prefer tack. Not that I have tack to care for any more.

- I love field stripping & cleaning weaponry. I'm not mechanically inclined. But field stripping & cleaning w all the working parts? Pure awesomeness. Except CLP cracks my fingers. That I could live without.

- I love MAIDS. Because except for the above 4 things, I loathe the rest. I want full time live in staff. Id gladly take weekly. But Ive got nuthin. Sigh.

other than ironing (I don't hate it - just don't like it) there isn't a chore I don't like doing. I like the sense of accomplishment from seeing a clean room, beds made, house smelling fresh...

I don't mind doing laundry, folding it or putting it away...although I have slacked this week on my family and not put clothes away...typically I do laundry Thursday and Monday....they get home from school and put laundry away...we are painting my oldest son's room....so it's a CHORE!!! so if painting is considered a chore - I loathe that one....would be easier if we paid someone to do it...but alas...I would have someone here doing my whole house!!

sorry - I digressed...I guess there isn't one that I love....just like the sense of accomplishment....cuz we know 5 minutes after we clean it - it's messy again!

Dishes. I feel out of control with a sink full of dishes. When I know I'm going to come home to a dish-free sink it's a relief. I usually start right after dinner when DD is still munching on fruit. I'll finish in the morning and yay, I'm free.

I don't mind most cleaning. I love doing other people's decorating, but that's not really a chore. I like painting rooms. I like projects in general, except for paperwork.

Thanks for the SOS pad tip, my shower could use a good cleaning.

I love love love to vacume. Which makes me like picking things up off of the floor to do so. I usually plug in music to my ears and go. I could vacume for hours if it wouldn't ruin my carpet.

I dont know why I like it... hmmm akward. I also like to shampoo carpets.. I dont have a carpet cleaner so we rent one every once in a while. I also like to mop... I will not usually use a mop though. Hands and knees with a rag and a bucket. Maybe I just like floors... hmmm I am weird!

O and mowing- just read the responses and we are actually getting rain this year so maybe trav will let me mow this year instead of being a mower hog... that is tanning time!

Dishes and laundry :). Ask my kids and husband what happens to my mood if the laundry gets backed up or there are dishes in the sink. Argh! I grew up in a family of 7 where these things were always behind. I hated it. So we rarely get behind on either.

Both chores are easy enough and the kids help.

I do LOVE a clean kitchen though too, so I don't mind doing that.

Thank God my kids like to clean :).

seriously..I sitting here giggling, none. Maybe its because I have been cleaning, cooking and laundry since I have been old enough to hold a broom and reach the wash machine. But since i do have to make a decision I would say dishes by hand. The feel and sound of the water is relaxing. I tune out the rest of the house.

I like dusting, vacuuming and washing floors by hand. I enjoy cleaning in general, it's super rewarding. I hate organizing, though, and I hate cleaning the shower.

My favorite, however, is cooking. I just wish someone else would make the grocery list and do the shopping ;-) and the dishes!

I enjoy going to the grocery store ... No list, usually no plan. My husband hates that I do it that way, but I love it. Cooking ... I usually enjoy cooking.

Everything else ... The lovely cleaning lady comes every other week. Husband and I share the dishes and the laundry (I usually sort, wash, dry, and fold. He puts it away.).

I like to scrub and get rid of things. But, I also get overwhelmed and so I have a hard time starting.

I also LOVE to decorate and paint and rearrange. But, my hubby gets very upset when I move things around so I can't do it too often or too fast. Instead I plan what the room is going to look like and put it on the wall for a day or two until he gets used to the idea, and then I do it. He is good about helping me move heavy stuff too.

I am going to try the SOS pad too because nothing works and I am sick of it! Thanks for the idea! Great question!

A chore I love to do is mow the lawn. We have a decent size lawn and for years we had a push mower. I would get out there and work up a nice sweat usually listening to guilty pleasure 80's & 90's music while doing it. I would put grid patterns into our yard whether is was a basic stripe pattern, a plaid pattern or picture frame I loved it. My In-laws gave us their old riding mower and hubby does it now....no fun! It was a real sense of accomplishment when I was completed....even after a gumball shot out and hit me in the eye....I still persevered! :o)

Well, someone else responded to the 'What Chores Do You Hate' question with 'Sex' (She was referring to when she was with her ex)... So I guess a "chore" that I love is sex :)

Other than that, vacuuming isn't so bad... I don't love it... But I would rather be vacuuming than doing other things.

Oh and I love organizing... Organizing, not to be confused with cleaning, but just organizing... Love it :)

mopping my floors. I just love clean floors and something about that thin layer of water on my mostly tile floors seems to settle all the dust in the air. I love how clean it makes everything feel. Its also the thing I do last, so it usually means I'm done cleaning.

I love taking a cluttered cupboard and doing a deep clean. Organizing the items, tossing old stuff, and putting everything back neatly just makes me feel very happy. Cleaning the fridge falls into this category. I did that last weekend, made me smile.
