*****More info:
Several of you have asked my age, I'm 40 years old. I plan on making an appointment with an OB/GYN tomorrow. I have UofM Prem. Care/BCN insurance and live in Howell, any recommendations??? *****
My last "period" was in the beginning of July. Since then I've felt like I was going to start; typical PMS symptoms: bloating, increase in irritability, cravings, complexion etc..but nothing has happened. I've taken at least a dozen home pregnancy tests of varying brands and at various times and none were positive. I have an awful lot of stress in my life and I realize stress can distrub your cycle but unsure to what extent. This past week I had dark; aka "old" blood when I wiped, and a small amount of spotting of the same. Nothing further developed from it, but I did notice a decrease in all the usual PMS symptoms. The spotting wasn't of regular consistency either; it was more clotty/stringy like. Anyone know what this is all about??? I'm without an OB/GYN currently but if this continues I will be finding one!

Thanks Ladies,
M. M.

I would take another pregnancy test now that you had that spotting. If it comes out negative. I would go see a Gynocologist. Yes stress can make you skip period too. I see dr. green in www.contemparygynecology.com. There out of rochester and washington.

You can have Neg pregnancy tests and still be pregnant. I would confirm the neg HPT with a blood test from your DR.

M.; yes stress can change them and make them dissappear totally, it also can mean you can be pregnant, although the tests did come out negative, ive seen my sister in law take tests, shes not pregnant , she is, shes not, she is, this went on for months, till finally she was, like 3 months later, she was 3 months along, its crazy what our bodies will do, i would definitely go to a dr if you dont start one soon, sometimes our stress will make it so you skip amonth ive done this many times, it could be too, that your body is resetting itself so to speak, you probably are just missing a month and will start soon , or a week or month later, when our periods do strange things we do need to get it checked, i would wait a week , and then go to drs, ask your freinds who they see, they might recommend a good dr, either way dont stress, and do some reading or studying and redirect our mind from the stress, enjoy life and be happy, D. s

You didn't say how old you are, but you could be in perimenopause as much as 10 years before you actually stop menstruating. Your periods sound exactly like what I've experienced this summer. I can tell you a DR. probably won't be concerned. I am definitely close. About 5 years ago I started reading up on it due to terrible mood swings. I've added soy & B vitamins to my diet and things seemed to regulate after that.

M.,

I have been experiencing the exact same thing this week -exactly as you described it too. I hope when you get an answer to this you'll post it for others to know. Good luck in your quest. S.

HI M.,
You didn't mention your age but I can tell you that I have had many of these things happen to me. Have you noticed that every once in a while you will have a really heavy period? What was your last regular period like? Maybe it was kind of light or ended more quickly than normal. I am pretty sure you just had some old blood left over that finally released itself. I am almost 43 and my doctor swears I am not starting menopause but I think I am. It takes a long time to actually get there. I am more apt to listen to my mother and her experiences to compare to myself. I have heard the later in life that you start your period means you will start menopause sooner.
I would, however find a good ob doctor or even a family doctor that you feel comfortable with. If you are in the Flint area I would be happy to suggest mine. It took me a very long time and a lot of doctors to find ones that I like and feel comfortable with. So I feel my choices are good (at least for me).
I wouldn't worry too much about what has happened. Give it another month to see if you get back to normal.

Hi M..
I don't think this is anything to worry about, sometimes our bodies like to take a break from "the norm". This happened to me a couple of times when I was in my 30's, I'm now 45 and having LOADS OF FUN with perimenopause. Take care and relax.

extreme stress can throw your body totally out of wack. I suggest you find an OB and make sure they are thorough. And don't stop until they find a reason. It might be hormonal. If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?
