Hello all, I have a 4 yr old son and he is sweater, I have discussed it with the dr and they have not concerns with it at all. My question is that I notice that when he sweats (i should not here it is mostly his head) I can sometimes smell it in his hair very strongly. Not a body odor type smell but definitely a distinct smell from his head. Has anyone ever dealth with this before or does anyone think this is something i should be concerned about?

What can I do next?

Hi D.! Good question! I felt frustrated and concerned for my young son. What I found with my son and husband who both sweat easily and profusely is to watch for mineral deficiencies.

Have you ever heard that our skin is our largest organ of excretion? My question would be then ...is constipation involved?

When our family worked on those things the amount of sweat and how much came into balance. If you would like details of what we did let me know.

blessings on your day,
M.

It is normal but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with. I would look at the way you are dressing him. Make sure he's not wearing to many layers. I would only do one and make it a t-shirt. Stick to cotton clothing since it "breaths" really well. Let him go barefoot at home and even turn down your heat. Hopefully he'll grow out of it!

Probably normal, my son is a sweater too. His doc checked his thyroid. Excessive sweat and being big for their age can be signs of a tyroid problem. My son's was fine. Ask your doc. It's a blood test.

This sounds like something my husband has. It is called hyperhydrosis or excessive sweating. Hyperhydrosis is when someone sweats excessively even if they are not doing anything strenuous. The sweating typically is seen under the armpits, tops of the hands and soles of the feet. My husband had it for years and his regular doctor knew nothing about it. It was not until he was out of highschool that he went to a dermatologist and they figured out what it was. There are treatments to help keep it under control. I would take him to a dermatologist who knows about this condition to see if that is what it is.

Good luck

Some kids sweat more than others. I'd just have him bathe and shampoo daily. Not to worry!

Most of the kids I have ever known including my 3 have what our family refers to as "cheese head"... if they are running around and playing hard they sweat and when that sweat dries it has a distinct smell... Well, my family used to make cheese (26 varieties) and to us, it smells like cheese... Sorta musky, sweet, and acrid all at the same time...

Sweat happens and yes, it smells... For grown ups it smells different than with kids...
Its normal...

Hi D.,

My husband sweats, his face turns all red, when he does any physical labor or even when he does some a simple exercise like walk. In fact, the older he gets, he seems to sweat even more. A doctor told him many years ago that it's just how his body cools down. My little 3-1/2 year old son is the exact same way, so it's probably genetic.
