Tell Me About Your Blackberry

I finally upgarded my phone this past weekend. I am not a big fan of touch screens so I went with the Blackberry Curve. I have 14 days to decide if I like it. So far, its ok, nothing great but much better than what I had. I want to hear from those of you that have had one for a while. What neat things does it do? What are the good apps? Pros and cons? I have not spent too much time "figuring it out" yet.

Thanks for the input :)

What can I do next?

I like being able to go online and such with it. I don't use a lot of apps. though, only free ones. I do like the Weather Plus app... It's a free weather one, and I have mine set to 3 different areas. (My home, my hometown where the familiy lives, and the mountain where my dad lives.) I love to call and gloat when mine says 80' and theirs is at 40. :)

I have been a BB user for the past 10 years. I think about switching to the iphone - i have an ipad and an ipod touch - but I think I would just miss the keyboard way too much. If iphone made a phone with a slide-out keyboard, I would think seriously about switching, but Steve Jobs hates keys and buttons so that is not likely to happen. To me, the iphone (and ipod touch and ipad) are more like fun toys. You will find a tremendous number of applications (way more than BB) on the iphone, a fabulous camera, etc. but the phone is just ehhhh. My husband is hearing impaired and could not even hear when he used the iphone. He switched to the BB torch and viola he could hear his callers.

My BB is an organization tool for me, not a toy. That is what I love about it! BB messenger is probably my favorite thing about my phone. There really is no comparison to other IM apps. I also use Facebook and Twitter, I have a couple of news and sports apps, pandora, weatherbug, etc. It really depends on what you're interested in. All smartphones should work with your email account, as well. I use Outlook for email, etc. and my office uses MS Exchange so this makes email very easy to use. And I absolutely LOVE the fact that it synch's my calendar and contacts.

Oh... and as for the sounds the BB makes when you get an email, that is easily fixed in the settings.

Hi,
I had a Blackberry phone for about 10 months, but I found the keyboard difficult as I thought the keys were too small. I now have an Androoid and it is much easier to use. I tried a different BBand the phone kept overheating and burning out the battery.
I have an app that I love, for migraines mapping. on my Android. It is on www.appbrain.com. I use it a lot.
The one for the Blackberry is at www.iHeadache.com . If you have headaches or migraines these are brilliant. My doctor gave me the name of the app to record my migraines when I get them. I had to find that one for my Android.
My vote goes to my Verizon Android.
If you want to get a cheap BlackBerry you can get one on Overstock .com refurbished for about $59 free and clear of a plan.
Hope this helps.

I'm not too into apps, (though I wish Mamapedia would do one!), so I cannot tell you too much about those. But, I love having all of my emails, texts, and phone calls at my fingertips. I love the keyboard, I personally don't like touchscreens. In fact, I'm on my blackberry right now responding to your question! I like having my browser to look up anything. I use the facebook app a lot. I have the google maps app and use Pandora for music. I love my blackberry though. :) I also have the curve.

My husband had a Blackberry. That thing drove me nuts. The sound it would make every time he got an email made me cringe, especially when he forgot to turn it off at night.

I got the Droid when it first came out. (I'm not normally one to get the "latest & greatest.) I loved it! I still love it. A year ago, my husband FINALLY gave up the Blackberry, and got an Android phone. Now, he'll never go back to Blackberry!

I'd say, go back to the store, and play with all of the different smart phones. There are many with slide-out keyboards. That's one of the things that sold me on the Droid.

I absolutely love my curve -
I listen to music read my ebooks, surf the net, take pictures, I have an exercise monitor loaded on it - it keeps track of my calorie burning. I maintain my facebook page, email my family and friends, and it has a blackberry messenger - that is texting for free between you and anyone else you know that also has a blackberry and uses the BB messenger! Whether they have the same provider or not.
As fr as cons - as much as I have heard of others complain - I have none - but then I also understand its a phone - not a computer and it des have its limits.
Sometimes I think folks forget that small detail, lol
I hope you enjoy yours - I have had mine for almost two years and when my contract is up I will get another one just the newer version of it

Well, I'll say this. I have had a Blackberry for the past 10+ years now. My husband gave me an iPhone for Christmas and I wasn't so sure about that at first because I loved my Blackberry. Yes, it took me a little while to figure out the whole touch screen thing with the iPhone (learning to type fast on it was interesting!) - anyway, I had both an iPhone and Blackberry Curve for the past 4 months. Last week I put the Blackberry away for good. I'm done with it. I know you think you don't like touch screens, but my advice is, give the Blackberry back and get an iPhone. There's no comparison between the two - I will never go back to a Blackberry (and I was a total Crackberry addict for more than 10 years!)... Really the only reason you NEED and would voluntarily choose to own a Blackberry is if you send e-mail that needs to be encrypted (i.e. if you work for a government agency). Hope that helps!

I used a Blackberry for about a year with my last office - I thought I loved it. I did love the convenience of it as a work tool for emails.

Then I got an Iphone3 this past summer, because it was actually less expensive than the BB and I had huge buyer's remorse when I saw the BB Torch. But, after I got used to the Iphone, it blew the BB out of the water.

As a work tool the BB was great - but for personal use I truly prefer the Iphone.

Although BB messaging with other BB users is quick and easier than text. And I do still sometimes miss the BB keyboard.

If you need it for work stuff, it's totally worth it. Great for pushing email, syncing with outlook, etc.

As far as apps, if you want it more for personal stuff, I'd probably go with an iphone. On the plus side, if you have friends or family with blackberries there is bbmessenger so you don't have to use up your texts.

I have a blackberrty torch, which I like because it keeps me organized which is really a struggle for me in general (ADHD), and I really couldn't function without it at work, but if I wanted a phone just for fun, I'd have chosen the iphone.
