Have you ever had something that you put off forever? I made a list of "jobs" that I needed to get done. Well, I am finally at the last "job". I need to make my home movies into DVDs. I would say about 60 VHSs. HELP !!!! Is there a machine out there that I could do them myself ? It very expensive to have them done by a service. I am watching each tape & keeping the dates & time of each tape. I am watching my baby (now 33) grow up.in front of my own eyes. I am laughing & crying all at the same time. Time goes so fast !!!

I think Costco does this now and it's not too expensive.

Yes, there are programs & devices that you can buy to do that. I am working on it now. My kids gave it to me for Christmas 2011 and then actually showed me how to do it when they were home Christmas 2012. (so you can see that I put it off even after I got the device) Mine is called
honestech VHS to DVD 5.0 DELUXE. My son got in online at Amazon but I am sure you can get something like that at best buy. He set it up for me when he was home for Christmas. I have a DVR connected to the device and the device is connected to a laptop. There was also a program I had to download. Now I can play the video and watch it on the laptop and decide whether I want to record it to a disc. (if not it erases)/ We have also downloaded some VHS to a file on the desktop. It has some fancier applications where you can edit the videos, too. I get wrapped up in watching old Christmas videos so you have to sit there so it doesn't go past the the part of the tape. I have transferred a few but I find it a slow process. Good Luck - I will read the rest of your responses in case someone has a better system to suggest.

We bought a VHS player that also records on to DVD but I don't remember how much it cost at all as it was years ago. Still haven't used it to all the home videos LOL
Costco does this now as well as was previously mentioned. It's not as much as most professional places charge.
I am at the point where I'm going to go there instead of keep waiting until I have time to do it myself with the machine I bought.

I have an older version of Pinnacle. It was about 75$ on Amazon and I've used it to digitize about 25 8mm tapes, then edit that raw footage into DVD's with added graphics and sound effects.

The key was save all that digitized video onto an external hard drive, rather than store it on your laptop or computer. It takes up way too much space for that. Once done, I keep a copy of all that video on an external hard drive in my safe deposit box. So even if my house burns down, I'll still have the videos of my babies.

My cousin has a player that plays both DVD and VCR and will transfer VCR to DVD. I don't know how much it cost but I doubt that it was expensive as having the transfer done professionally.

It's GO VIDEO and I think the model # is G6650.

Here is one that says it transfers VCR to DVD. And there is another link for another on on this page. The price is $69.
