Hi everyone, I am trying to find out what are the tyes of dicipline people are exercising on their 2 year olds. My son is 2 1/2 and time out is ridiculous he wont sit in the corner, even if it was to save his life. I know spanking is a big issue with people so dont worry about that one. Im just looking for some advice.

I recommend you go online and google Parenting With Dignity by Mac Bledsoe. Look for the book specifically for preschoolers.

I also recommend an excellent, easy to read book by Elizabeth Pantley called Kid Cooperation you can find on Amazon.com

I am a counselor for children and parents and I do a lot of parenting training groups and seminars and these two books (among others) are ripe with information I pass along to parents with great success. Feel free to contact me personally if you want referalls on other experts in your area of town who might help you if you need further assistance. Good luck! - L. W

it's all so much easier said than done... time outs are hard at that age, but you can sit them down, get on their level, look them in the idea and tell them "no hitting", or (whatever they've done). Try to catch them being good and offer lots of praise for that. "You're sitting so nicely at the table". Lots of times I'll take away things when they aren't behaving... for example if they are arguing and fighting over a toy, the toy just gets taken away. Don't give in or give him what he wants when he is whining or having a trantrum. Make him ask nicely for things... just some thoughts that come to mind! There are tons of good books out there, you have to see what kinds of things work for your child.

HI.

You're not alone.

Get John Rosemond's book "Making the Terrible Two's Teriffic." It's wonderful!

Dear M.,

I shared this info with another mom so I am repeating my self to some degree however I wanted to share this with you as well I found a website called positivediscipline.com and you may want to looking to some books for children by Elizabeth Verdick she writes books ex: "Feet are not for kicking" "Teeth are not for biting" anyway she's got some stuff that may help you. Look into them you maybe surprised. Also it was suggested to me to read a book called "Raising an Intelligent Child" by John Gottman, Ph.D. it does deal with discipline and has research behind it. Hope this helps you some. Best of luck.
