What's your favorite kitchen knives and why?

I like Cutco - they are expensive - but made in America and have a lifetime warranty. I don't own Cutco right now...but I think I will.

I have loved Chicago Cutlerly as well. With my first marriage we had Chicago and JA Henckels.

I don't necessary need or want "the best" - I want good quality and balance...

So what's your favorite cutlery set?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I'll look into Wusthof.

I do like JA Henckels still....I like that Cutco is American made. tough decisions!

My first Mother's Day gift was a set of the high end Henkels. To this day.... they still look brand new and I LOVE them.

ETA: That was 18 yrs ago and they still look new!

*SIGH* I would looove to be able to own a great set of knives!
A friend of the family sold Cutco a few years back. I bought one steak knife from her to help her out. It is by far my favorite knife I own, but I can't afford to buy any more!

Wusthof. I've had a set for over six years. I use the chef's knife daily. I think they will last forever.

We don't have a "set" because all the research and experience we have in the kitchen (we both have advanced culinary skills) has told us that buying a few good pieces from different brands is the best.

My favorite is our Wusthof Ikon 7'' chef's knife. It's the best and most balanced knife I've ever used, and fits very comfortably in my hand. Really easy to maintain as well.

Wusthof!

It's comfortable, holds a sharp edge, and is easy to sharpen, when needed.

The knife I have and love can no longer be gotten. The company and logo still exist but it was sold to another company that makes an inferior product. Be sure if you are getting reviews that you check to see if production has changed hands and if reviews are for the old or new manufacturers.

You mean we aren't supposed to take the steak knives home from restaurants?! KIDDING!!!!!

We have a complete mess of knives...different pieces gotten at different times. We want a good set, but just can't spend the money on them right now.

I think my money would be better spent on a cruise :).

I have my favorite individual knives. An old Chicago Cutlery paring knife, all worn down and just the right size and weight for removing stems from strawberries and other tiny tasks. From my Henckels knife set, I only use the santoku knife, the bread knife and the little serrated knife for cutting tomatoes. The rest of the knives in the set just take up space.

I have an old set of Chicago Cutlery from my first marriage. It's soft and not great.

I have the Wustof chef's knife that I LOVE. I just bought a Cutco carving knife (think that's the one) that I like a lot too, but I use my chef's knife all the time.

I also have a few of the Pampered Chef that again are "ok".

I LOVE my Cutco! I went to school not too far from where they are made so when I bought my first one, it was just to support local business, but I loved it so much that when I got my first job I bought a set. I love my knives! I've sent them in to be sharpened (for free except shipping) which is a great perk of owning them. One piece I found a rummage sale and sent in to be sharpened. Doesn't matter where you get it, if it's in your possession it's yours. I've never had a problem with them and they have great accessories outside of the knife family. I love their ice cream scoop too. I got my neighbor addicted and have been buying her piece by piece the set I have for xmas. It will take me more than a few years, but she appreciates every gift.

Wusthof Trident knives. They hold an edge, and the handles fit my hands well. But, I don't have a set. I have a chef's knife and a paring knife.

We have a JA Henckels set we got as a wedding present 18 years ago. They were bought for us by someone that swears by them. It's not even their best set. It still works amazingly all these years later. The only knives we don't have from the set are the couple that my dear husband threw away over the years. He has a bad habit of leaving a knife in the pizza box or donut box or something stupid like that and forgets to check when he throws it out. We've lost so many ice cream scoops and spoons the same way LOL
We replaced the missing steak knives with the same brand but one of their higher end lines.
They all are holding up to what we use them for.

I have a pretty nice set of Chicago Cutlery knives, but my favorite knife is a Wustof santoku knife. I use it instead of a chef's knife. The Grand Prix handle is the perfect balance for my hands. I recently sharpened it with a really cheap (like $8) knife sharpener, and it is just as good as the day I bought it, 10 years ago!

We have been looking at some Wusthof, but don't have any yet. Years ago my BIL sold Cutco, and we wish we would have bought some then. Right now, it's just my crappy Walmart ones. As long as I can get a sharp serrated knife, I'm good.

I have a whole set of Cutco knives & accessories.
I hate them--never use them. My husband uses those.
I have Henckels steak knives. They're "OK."
My favorite knives? O. is a nondescript serrated long bread knife my grandmother gave me about 25 years ago. There's no name on it.
The other is also nameless--same type of knife but about half the size.
