Who Decides What Gets Pulled?

OK this is an honest question about the process of posts being removed from this site.

Exactly how does it work? I've had my own responses pulled when I didn't think they were over the top at all and other times when I thought I really pushed the boundaries with language and they remain up.

Does a post have to be "turned in" by another user or does management at Mamapedia look at every post and decide what's OK. Are "flaming" words picked up by a program that alerts the people who run the site to check certain posts?
Due to the "weird weekends" clearly there are people reading what we write as it's obvious when they are not around.
If it were up to me everything that constitutes free speech would stay up. I feel like we are adults and should be able to say what we want barring yelling fire in a theatre.

I have never turned anyone in for a post and I can honestly say I never will.
What is the process and what do you think about it?

What can I do next?

I think that someone needs to "report" a post for violating the rules spelled out in the agreement we made when we registered for Mamapedia AND if Mamapedia sees something they also can just remove it. (I've listed the link below that covers the do's and don'ts.)

I've had a post removed because I asked if anyone could use a Gymboree code for 25% off that I wouldn't be using, my post was pulled because I was "soliciting" business :-/ Trying to be helpful was wrong...

It's done in an underground secret facility. They are in leagues with bigfoot and lochness. They used to be tied in with unicorns but they decided to kick them out because they felt like one horned mystical beings were "too controversial"

Ok, obviously I am being silly. I believe that it only goes by posts that are being reported by other mamapedia members. Unfortunately, this opens up a flood gates of mama's who can't get along and continually report each other.

The monitors decide which posts are pulled.

SOMETIMES - it is NEVER consistent - but if you include a link to a site IN YOUR question, it gets pulled. It is NEVER consistent. I have included links and others have - it's random. If you put your link in your SWH - then it seems to be fine.

Other posts get pulled when you "directly name a person" or if "one can be easily identified in the post".

There are people who have "cliques" and if they don't like a person - they send a message to their clique and say "did you see what so and so wrote?"...they may even ask for them to report the post. However, the pulling is done by Mamapedia and mamapedia alone. They make the decision if someone is being flaming, swearing, etc.

Sometimes words like a$$ pass and other times they don't. Guess it depends upon who is in front of the computer screen when the message comes through.

Go to the bottom of your screen and click on Terms And Conditions.
Look at #4.

The "clique ganging up on people and asking others to report a post" has already been nicely explained....

Among other terms and conditions you'll find some interesting tidbits, such as you cannot advertise/promote your business, you cannot use profanity, use copyrighted information...

Oh--and here's a good O.:

•"You shall not create multiple user accounts in connection with any violation of the Agreement or create user accounts by automated means or under false or fraudulent pretenses ."

And another:
"•You shall not impersonate any person or entity, including, but not limited to, a Mamapedia employee, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity."

And another prohibited action...
"•collect personal data about other users for commercial or unlawful purposes" like someone's full name should they choose to represent themselves anonymously....

Some interesting stuff in the terms and conditions section!

Nothing gets pulled unless someone reports it. That was told to me in one of my back and forth with ones of the admins. Things that contain links are not against the rules but for some reason people report those as advertising and if anything gets pulled without a review it is reports of advertising.

I found that out in a back and forth when I got the canned advertising is not allowed email. I asked what about that post was advertising. Then got the email sorry, we shouldn't have pulled that please feel free to re post it.

I do think they are getting better about actually reading them before they pull them. If there was one thing I wished it would be if they get a mess of reports from the OP about answers to perhaps make sure the question isn't flaming itself before they pull the answers but hey, I will take it as it is. :)

I wanted to answer the title question, gnomes. :p

I think it comes after someone complains unless the actually question is something that sounds extremely bizarre enough to catch a monitor's eye.

Different reasons but most get pulled because someone reported them. It's unfortunate, really, that some users are SO wrapped up in this site. All they have to do is go post by post looking for anything they don't like and report it. I won't name names but they know who "they" are.

It is most likely and automated system. Probably a combination of how many people submit a pull request plus an algorithm looking for key words. I strongly doubt that there are any "monitors" actually reading this site (other than maybe they occasionally "peek in").

I think it may be done on an individual basis. I was so surprised to get a post removed just for stating my own personal opinion. I didn't break any of the rules in the "Terms and Conditions." Another poster reported it because she thought I was mean. She didn't agree with my post stating my own personal opinion on a controversial subject. I guess Mampedia didn't agree either.

It's not a moderated site, so there's no basic standard that is applied... It's almost entirely member governed. When x # of people report a post it gets pulled automatically. Almost entirely, because technical q's get pulled by staff from time to time.
