Anyone Seen/done the "Get Rich" Letter on Oprah? I Might Do It...

Has anyone participated in the get rich letter where you send $1 to 6 people and distribute 200 letters? Looking for results levels.
Before you send me advice against participation, let me explain. I am a pretty conventional business woman, and normally don't give two blinks to these types of letters, but when I'm slapped with the words "As seen on Oprah and 20/20" and $800,000 I am compelled to read. So far their marketing worked like a charm!

This is one of those 'chain letters' with a few twists that as a marketing expert I think might make it actually work! Because your name is immediately added to the pay list and will circulate SIX times, not 5 as seen on some, the return is extended longer and wider.

I googled and called two of the people on the list I am to send a dollar to, and they have seen a slow but steady trickle of dollars coming in since they circulated the letter in March...

Has anyone done this letter and what were your results (if any!). I'm willing to invest $6 and mailing fees for a shot that it will work. I could REALLY use even a fraction of the return!

So What Happened?

Wow. I guess many of you failed to read the request! I asked if anyone had DONE it; not for people to please attack me publicly and privately with personal responses!

I can't tell you how quickly I lost the "strong network of caring friends" feeling! Imagine if I had actually asked OPINIONS! Or written about something personal! Good Lord!

And, Sherri from Bonner: marketing is a reputable, very highly educated occupation. Having never met me or worked with me, I struggle to figure out how or why you think I scam people for a living or find the people I work with gullable. And, yes, I REALLY HAVE been married for 16 years. Your reason for doubting that? Never mind. I really don't care.

Hi L., I know this might be kinda late since it took me for ever to read this email but to let you know I have done this a few times. The one where you send a book and the one that you send a $1. I never got anything back but it doesnt hurt to try:) And your right, man Sherri is mean! when someone is asking for advise there is no reason to react so hateful!!! Dont let her bother you, her comment doesnt matter!

L.,

I hate to burst your bubble, but ABC News is reporting this as a scam and a pyramid scheme. Chain letters are the most basic form of a pyramid scheme. These types of scams are illegal. Unfortunately, if something sounds to good to be true it probably isn't. Please report this to the local fraud unit in your home town. The FBI and the post office may also be interested since this uses the United States Postal service to commit fraud and probably crosses state lines which would make it a Federal crime.

I'm sure that you will be angry at me for saying this, but please don't waste your precious time an resources on this. We need to stick together and support one another more than ever these days. When the economy is in a tail spin the con artists go into full gear and start taking advantage of us.

Sorry, I haven't done it, but I am amazed at your thoroughness in researching it. I know you're not asking for advice, but if I were to have any :-), I'd say, if it feels right, you'll know. I'd also say, what do you really have to lose? Let us know if you do it and get the results you wanted!

Don't do it. Anything that promises that you'll get rich quick and sounds like it's too good to be true is just that... too good to be true.

I always check anything like this, or any other chain email (like a computer virus that's going to destroy your hard drive, urban legend, anything) at Snopes.com. Here's the link to one on chain letters...

Don't always believe what you read. Research it for yourself.

It's just like any chain letter...... if it is going to work, each and every person continuing on down the chain would have to do it. My friends have sent book exchange ones, lottery tickets, and even the $1 but that one was many years ago. In each and every instance, I was lucky to get ONE item back. Don't waste your time!!!!
