We all have our sleep habits... My husband likes to cocoon in the blankets but then throws one foot out for some reason. I heat up like a furnace once I'm asleep, so I need my independence and often ditch the blankets altogether. Any form of incidental contact can get me so overheated that I wake up soaked. But when my little girl comes to me in the middle of the night because the guy with the noisy motorcycle down the street woke her up again, my instinct is to scoop her up next to me. There is something wonderful about having my arm around her tiny body with her little hand resting on mine, having her so close that I can feel her breath going in and out, and feeling the soft touch of her hair on my cheek. And it is magical how my body adjusts to accomodate her presence there beside me! I just wanted to share this to celebrate being a Mommy! Can anybody relate?
My youngest is going to be 3 in another three weeks. I KNOW that she should be in her own bed and that I should put the boob away, but when she is lying next to me, latched on, and I feel her sweet little hair on my arm, I am just swept away by how much I love this kid.

You just put tears in my eyes because I feel the same way when I have my little girl or baby boy in bed with me.
Forget sleep deprivation, dirty spit-up stained clothes, dirty dishes or disheveled house....it all makes up for it when your child gives you the biggest smile in the world because you did something for them or gives you a hug and kiss just because they wanted to, and you didn't have to ask for it!
I know a lot of people are against any form of cosleeping (I know I said I would never do it before having kids) but now, I can't imagine it any other way! My daughter (2.5) does not end up in bed with us as much as she used to now that our 7 month old son is in there a lot nursing. But when she does, it's adorable how she manages to snuggle down into the covers and then slide a hand underneath my body! She'll murmur "Good night mama" and turn over and go to sleep.
My son sleeps in my arms usually so I'm not as comfortable, but it's nice that when he wakes up and starts to fuss, I can just pop a boob out, feed him and then we both fall back asleep.
Thanks for sharing and putting me in a good mood on this Friday (I started off cranky so I needed that!).

Absolutely! I love being a Mom - it's by far the most important thing I've ever done in my life and the most amazing responsibility I have to fulfill as a person.
As a working Mom, my focus often gets shifted away from my family more than I'd like. But, getting diagnosed with cancer a few weeks after having my second child made me open my eyes to being more present in their lives.
Not a day goes by that I don't tell them how much I love them, how fabulous I think they are, nor that I don't put away something I'm interested in so I can get on the floor and "play" with them.
I love having my children nuzzle next to me in bed. It gives me some reassurance as well as them. The truth is, we never know what the future holds, and I certainly don't want my children to know anything other than my love and adoration for them.
Thanks for posting your thoughts this morning.

Totally agree! I'm too old-fashioned to believe in a permanent family bed, but I did it while nursing, and she still comes and snuggles at 2 1/2 years old. And I've always felt like everything is perfect in the world when she's snuggling with me! :)
Yay for celebrating! What a wonderful post to share!

I love this. Thanks for sharing.
And I have similar reactions to 'incidental contact' because my hubby is a furnace all the time his body heat can alarm up a room especially at night with blankets! But when my little girl needs reassurance I love being able to snuggle her up and also seem to adjust to her presence.

That's just precious! Thanks for the fuzzy warm feeling. It just doesn't get much better than that does it?! =0) Being a mommy is really hard and can be so stressful, but all it takes is one moment like that to remind you that it's the most wonderful thing in the whole world!!!

We had a round of the stomach bug this week. We are all feeling better but just a little extra tired. I laid down on the couch and my 4 year old daughter (sometimes 4 going on 14) curled up next to me on the couch. There we snuggled for an hour and a half. I wouldn't dare move so I didn't break the spell. They won't be little for long! I say let's enjoy all of the little moments we can.

My son is almost 7 months old and up until about 7 months ago I never realized how much I could love someone. The feeling I have watching him smile, hearing him laugh, its truly amazing ! There is nothing better than being a mom!

Totally. My son and I have co-slept since his birth, he's now almost 4.
i am sure you love your hubby, but I couldn't help but wonder...Hmmm.. Did you ever think that your husband might get that same sensation when he snuggles next to you in bed? You may not be able to snuggle all night, but perhaps the first 15 minutes in bed (to at least warm up the sheets) will do. Nighty night, sleep tight!
