I grew up in South Jordan and my husband grew up in West Jordan. Both are pretty good areas with a lot of homes being built. Salt Lake Community College has a branch off of 90th South and Bangerter Highway. So it is close to a college as well. Also, we just moved to Centerville in July and I'm liking this area a lot. It is a lot smaller than South or West Jordan. But any of those places I would recommend. Good luck!

A nice (relatively inexpensive) place to live on the east side is
Cotton Wood Heights (7507 South, 2700 East). Lots of elementary schools, a rec center for the kids (only costs $250 per year for whole family) etc.

The area you mentioned is, in my opinion, not that great. It's on the west side, which has much higher crime rate, etc. than the east side.

I have three kids and am also lds. I think Cotton Wood Heights is a great place to raise kids. It's safe and you can find decent housing values. Try to stay on the east side!

The community college is about 20 minutes away. Not a bad commute at all.
Good luck

I agree. Vally Fair Mall is NOT a good area. Stay way! I don't know if your about to move or already moved but I would suggest the sugarhouse area: east of 1100 east. There is a branch of SLCC close by. Draper and South Jordan are also new doombing areas, a little bit pricey. Good luck.

Valley Fair Mall is NOT a good area. If you are looking in west valley, try west of 5600 west and south of 4100 south (that is where I live) it is really nice area in WVC. The schools are great out there (Hillside elementary is excellent). Just remember the closer you get to Redwood Road (in WVC) the worse it gets.

I am Catholic, but most of my neighbors are LDS and they love the neighborhoods and ward out there.

Good luck!

I grew up in Taylorsville near the intersection of 54th and Redwood Road (where the new super walmart is). From my experience, the closer you get to Valley Fair Mall, Kearns or parts of West Valley, the more "ghetto" you get. I've never lived by the mall, but to be honest, I don't know that I ever would. If you are looking for a place to rent or buy, your best bet is around Eisenhower Jr High (across from SLCC), by Taylorsville High, in "the Grove" (east of Plymouth Elementary in the gully) or anywhere south of Plymouth Elementary along 13th west. I've always liked the area west of Harmons as well (54th and Redwood) called Bennion area. Anyway, I don't know the prices of these areas for rentals or homes, but I think they would be pretty fair. These are all quiet and safe neighborhoods (I had lots of friends there). But again, I don't know much about the homes by VF Mall, but I don't think they would be as safe or quiet. Of course I'm biast!
