Try Goo Gone Sticker Lifter, and follow that with a lot of scrubbing and scalding hot soapy water. There's also Goof Off 2, which is water based. If anything is left after that, you can use rubbing alcohol and try lifting the last of it up with Duct Tape (stickum to lift off the stickum!) I once accidentally washed a blouse that had a big round election sticker on it. There's also something called Basic-H and KrudKutter but I've never used them.

Silly Putty is one of those things (like chewing gum, adhesive residue, and compacted snow) that is its own best remover. Just take a wad of it and start dabbing against the residue on your couch and pulling it away. It will gradually take away most of the residue.

Then, you're on your own, 'cuz I have no idea what dissolves it! LOL I know 'D-Solv-It' and 'Goo-Gone' remove gum and adhesive, crayon marks, candle wax, etc, tho.

I can't wait to read the responses to this! I have it on 2 blankets that I didn't see until after I put them in a the hot wash cycle. :( I so despise silly putty...

In the past I have always frozen items. Whether it be gum or silly putty. It gets very brittle when frozen and you can just pick it off. If the item is too big to put in the freezer try using an ice cube. I found that using heat only makes it go into the fabric more.

not positive about silly putty, but for playdough the best thing to do is to leave it alone until it gets hard (dried out) and then you can just pick it off with your nails.

The best thing that I have found is hand sanitizer!!!! It works great. Need to scrub a little, but it dissolves the residue left behind as well.

This is what worked for me to get gum out of my daughter's clothes: Microwave some vinegar until it is piping hot, but not quite boiling. Then dip a new toothbrush (an old/used one with toothpaste residue might discolor your fabric) into the hot vinegar and gently scrape away the putty. This works best when the vinegar is really hot, so you may have to re-microwave a few times to keep it hot. This should work - good luck!

If it is a lagre wad, you can try all the suggestions, and scrub your heart out, but the best remedy...flip the cushion!

My kids put silly putty on one of my cushions the day after my new couches were delivered. It had a cool design and they were trying to lift it. So they really smushed it on the cushion, about a 3 in circle, and left it there. I found it hours later. Needless to say, I tried most of the remedies mentioned but I found the best thing to do was just to hide it! ha ha

Shaklee Organic Cleaner called Basic H2... undiluted!
Let me know if you need to know how to get some.
It also gets gum out of hair and fabrics as well.
