Was wondering if anyone has tried any type of fillings for Strawberry cake. I am making a cake the weekend & wanted to add a filling but not sure what would be good with a strawberry cake. I don't want to add a strawberry filling. Afraid it'll be too much strawberry.

I second the fresh strawberries with cream. I don't like a filling that is too sweet and what beats fresh strawberries?!

I do a filled strawberry cupcake. I mix cream cheese, vanilla, sugar and eggs to make a cream cheese filling. I pipe it into the cupcakes with a ziploc. Cream cheese icing onthe cupcakes when they are cooled. Not sure of the logistics, but you could try that in your cake. I got the recipe from Allrecipies.com

lemon curd, vanilla pudding (or chocolate) would be great. spread a thin layer almost to the edge of the cake, put the other layer on top and frost. if you don't want to be too strawberry, frost w/ whipped cream.

I think a cream cheese based frosting would be delicious with strawberry! Also, I made strawberry cupcakes for my daughter's bday. I used the "Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing" from www.allrecipes.com. I cut the vanilla in half and added 3/4 tsp of almond extract to it. It was heavenly and fluffy but still good for decorating (I used the same recipe for my son's bday cake and it's good for frosting cakes as well.). It got rave reviews from our guests.

chocolate or white cream. Thanks, now I want some! :) I made a strawberry flavored cake once with strawberries sliced for the top. I used Dreamwhip to make filling and "frosting". I used cream cheese jello instant pudding in the mix (follow the directions and just add a box to the Dreamwhip mix for icing). I had extra chocolate bars left over so I chopped those fine and added them to the filling. White chocolate pudding works well also. Or you could chop up some bananas and place them in the middle with some pussing or icing as a base.

Bananas seem to taste great with strawberry. Or a vanilla custard.

I would try mascarpone, or maybe lemon flavored custard or ice cream. Or just vanilla ice cream. Yum!

I know you said you didn't want strawberry filling for fear of "too much strawberry" but if you use some whipped cream and fresh strawberries you will get a whole new kind of fresh strawberry flavor.
If you really don't want that, definitely chocolate! Like a chocolate covered strawberry, just inside out. :)
Good luck.

Chocolate works well with strawberries. What you can do is maybe add some mini choc. chips to some strawberry jam and use that as a filling. You can also put some chocolate shavings on top of the cake.
